Oh Holy Night by a country mile.

The chords are as EPIC as anything I've ever heard. Surprised Muse have never covered it, would be perfect for them.

We three kings of Orient are
One in a taxi, one in a car
One on a scooter, beeping his hooter
Smoking a fat cigar

Ahhhh, it's like being seven years old again.

I do like Oh Holy Night, but I personally prefer singing more complicated harmony stuff.

In Dulce Jubilo ( not the Mike Oldfield version)
Angelis Ad Virginem
In the Bleak Midwinter ( Darke or Holst version)

Are there any that don't sound like a dirge?

Any happy ones?
What? How can you call something like "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" a dirge? It's an inspiring piece of music. And "Ding Dong Merrily On High" positively bounces along.

I think my favourite is probably God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, but it varies depending on my mood and the circumstances.

There are plenty of happy ones, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, Little Donkey etc,

Its all about what you want out of it. personally I find a lot of teh more "serious" carols tend to be very dark

I never really understood the Christian celebration of a child that was born, who would die in a most horrible and barbaric way as something to be happy about.

Doesnt stop me enjoying singing some of the most beautiful music though
