I'm a bit of a tart when it comes to the Bundesliga - I have soft spots for Mönchengladbach, Kaiserslautern and Nuremberg but I really admire Freiburg. A small town with a great fanbase surviving against teams with far greater resources.

Mind you, 1860 Munich are my real German love.

If Bayern weren't quite so dominant, they'd have by far the best league in the world from a fan's point of view. It's already excellent with low entry prices, qualla stadiums and humungus crowds.

Oh, and Borussia Dortmund. That terrace is the bollox.

Fc St Pauli after experiencing their rather generous hospitality earlier in the year it would be rude not too, and their intro music is Hells Bells by AC/DC, doesn't get better than that.

As do I, been to see the mighty Wolfsburg twice this season at St. Pauli & Mainz.

Although I have liked German football for a long time it is only recently I have decided to actively follow a team. It came from an idea following a conversation I had with 2 good mates who follow Watford and Liverpool...It was initially thought we could support different clubs but I argued we do that in this country and it would be cool if we all travelled over to watch the same team...It would be something we could do together.

I won through and naturally we then had different ideas of who to follow...I wanted to avoid Bayern Munich and Pauli like the plague and although I have always admired Leverkusen they are currently running away with the title so it is would be like 'glory-hunting'. So, Cologne became a favourite but to keep things fair we held a draw and Cologne luckily came through.

We intend making our first trip pretty soon...

Albion, 1 & England forever.

Anyone know what German team played in this shirt in the late 80s?

Hertha BSC. I watched them for half a season a few years back and still go to at least one game every half season since.

After finishing 4th two season ago (and were title contenders until the penultimate game) they were relegated. They're currently top of the zweiter by 5 points and will hopefully be back in the top flight next season.

Top of the league and they play in blue and white stripes...sound familiar?

That just looks like the old national team away strip.

Yeah, I know, but I don't think the national team had shirt sponsors, there has been a suggestion it is a team from Bonn, but I can't find any team from Bonn who have worn that colour shirt.

The West Germany kit would have probably had a badge too.
Given the year might it have been a kit used in special match to celebrate the momentus events?

Yes. And the Olympiastadion is such a majestic venue I can even overlook the athletics track. Quite partial to 1860 too.
