I find Mike Leigh a bit hit and miss but the hits are bloody good. Life is Sweet, Secrets & Lies and Happy-Go-Lucky are all superb films.

Zulu is my all time favourite. The bit when they hear the sound of what seems to be a train in the distance - gets me nervous every time!

Oh Mr. Porter.. The pre-war classic comedy. with the great Will Hay, (possibly my fave comedy actor ever), Moore Mariott, and Graham Moffatt.

Dated now obviously, but very much of it's time, and allegedly it was partly through watching this film, that gave Jimmy Perry his idea for Dads Army.

Good choice. "Do you want me to go to the end"? "yes, but don't pass the end".Simply superb.

I hope these are all proper British films as I think some have been made by American studios, does that matter?

Dambusters and Cruel Sea, excellent choices. Can i add Ice cold in Alex and any of the Black and White Carry on films ????

Hell Driver,s just look at the cast.Kenneth Branagh and Conspiracy. If i can have Prime Suspect 3. Inherit the Wind (The Monkey Trial) and alot of the suggestions could well be low budget ? If so two Sci-fi ones The Day The Earth Caught Fire and Quartermas and the Pit.
