[Football] Your England XI vs Croatia

With England's match against Croatia rapidly approaching, which 10 lesser mortals would you pick to accompany our Ben on Sunday?

I'm enjoying the fact that Sky haven't yet found the time to ask the work experience kid in the graphics to give Ben a 3 Lions badge :)

Not much in it for either wingback berth for me and Bellingham can count himself unlucky not to squeeze in. I found it harder than I thought (it would be easier with the choice of Dunk & Webby at the back of course).

If you pulled on Southgate's magic waistcoat, who would start for YOU?!

Same but Pickford in goal and Walker probably just a right wing back. Or saying that, Walker for Coady as can play there.

Pickford
Walker - White - Coady
James - Mount - Rice - Shaw
Grealish - Forden
Kane

Our defence is awful, and I still wouldn't have Stones anywhere near it. Southgate will pick him though, obviously

Think Southgate will pick this:

————————Pickford————————
—-Walker———Stones———Coady——
Trippier——Rice———Philips—-Chilwell
————Mount————-Foden—————
————————-Kane—————————

I’d pick this:

———————Henderson———————
James——White——Coady——Chilwell
—————Rice————Mount—————-
—Rashford——Foden———Grealish—-
————————Kane—————————-

Jack must start, I'd go with Kane and then Sterling, Jack and Rashford behind him. In the centre of defence it's got to be Mings and Stones for me.

.................Pickford
Walker, Mings, Stones, Shaw
.......Henderson, Rice
..Sterling, Jack, Rashford
...........Kane

:lolol:

Mings and Stones. You did make me chuckle, you little rascal. What is your thinking there? Presumably that you think the England lads deserve a good long break before the EPL kicks off again.

So the consensus seems to be a 4-2-3-1 of:

Pickford

Walker
Shaw
White
Stones

Rice
Bellingham

Foden
Mount
Grealish

Kane

with the questions marks at goalkeeper and right-back. Not too many starting Maguire or Jordan Henderson, and not a lot of interest in Johnstone, Mings, Phillips, Saka, Rashford, DCL, Sterling or Sancho.

I think Southgate will go with a 4-2-3-1 but for me it’s…

Henderson
White - Stones - Coady
James - Rice - Mount - Chilwell
Grealish - Kane - Foden

Everyone keeps picking Foden, Mount and Grealish. Never going to happen, especially with Kane's propensity to drop deep - it would be a disaster. 3 number 10s all stepping on each other's toes, with a striker also in their way.

You need pace running in behind, so one of Sterling, Rashford or Sancho has to start.

I would probably go Sterling - criminally underrated in an England shirt, has a very good understanding with Kane. The good thing is we have such depth of quality attacking options that we can freshen it up in practically every game.

Pickford

James
White
Stone
Chilwell

Rice
Bellingham

Sterling
Mount
Foden

Kane

With Grealish and Sancho/Rashford to come on if needed. Then Grealish probably to start the next game in Mount's spot, etc and so on.

Exactly how I see it. No way would playing that trio be anything short of a disaster

Is the consensus that Maguire is definitely injured? At least for the first game?

Just caught some of Talksport, my ears perked up as they talked about Ben White. More and more it seems opinions in the press have gone from who's Ben White? To thinking he should start the first game.

Their usual lads down the pub nonsense lazy opinions then resumed as the discussion of 'why isnt Ben White at a big club?' started and in a matter of fact manor they stated that it was because we ''demanded a ridiculous £50m for him in the summer''. Did we? Must have missed that club statement. Just continues to amaze me how baseless this type of 'journalism' can be.

The problem with the squad we have is that we have to select a 4-1-5 to make it work :lolol:

For me, getting Ben in and playing the two Chelsea WBs would be interesting. And I HATE Pickford. Something like:

Johnstone
White Stones Codey
James Rice Bellingham Chilwell
Mount Kane Foden

I suspect Waistcoat will pick something like

Pickford
Walker Stones Mings Trippier
Phillips Rice
Foden Mount Sterling
Kane

I want our boy to start as much as everyone here. But the more I think about it, I’m not sure I’d be completely confident in a Ben White - John Stones CB pairing. They’re a very similar type of player.

Hate to say it but for me it has to be Coady and one of Stones/White. Mings is obviously out of the question.

(Assuming we play a back 4)

Really difficult to pick what he'll go with. There's not many nailed on starters in the squad. Maybe Kane, Rice, and Stones are the only ones. For Gk, fullbacks, most of the midfield, and a partner for Stones, it still seems unclear.

Grealish and Foden as impact subs coming off the bench, and maybe Chilwell at left back instead of Shaw but otherwise - pretty confident. Despite the manager.

Sadly, it'll be a pudding of a formation shoehorning certain players in. If Sterling starts, all hope is lost.
