Cats are the dogs. NEVER trust/befriend/enter into any sort of relationship, sexual or otherwise, with a bloke who doesn't worship our feline friends. It really is the acid test.

glasfryn I never knew you liked cats! People who like cats are mentally disturbed. It's true, my dog told me.

None. No desire to ever have any. They leave hair everywhere, have very little connection to humans and don't care who you are as long as you feed them. You get nothing back from a cat.

Kittens are amazing though, if only we could genetically engineer kittens to stop them becoming cats.

You haven't met many cats.

A good cat is miles better than a good dog. Not smelly, not annoying, don't have to walk it.

A friendly affectionate cat is literally the perfect pet.

Or those who cannot find the time / inclination to be kind and friendly to pets / animals, even if not their own, I've found, to be very self-centred and unpleasant personalities in general.

Rubbish. Whenever I've had a dog die it's been like losing a member of the family. Horrible, horrible experience. Every time I've had a cat die it's been a bit "The cat's dead. Shall we get another one? Nah".

Love Cats myself. The most loyal and affectionate pets (dogs are too needy and hectic IMHO). Mine is about 10 years old, we lost three others to snakes .

She is neutered but not microchipped and she does go out at night (naughty naughty).

Ours was semi wild and lived outside a garage when we got her. She took a while to warm to us and disappears when we have visitors (some friends we've had for years only met her a few weeks ago and were never convinced she existed before then).

We also have some fish a gecko and until recently two rabbits.

I am hoping to get a galah or cockatoo in the next few weeks.

I prefer Cats, however the bond with a dog is stronger, that said when my Older rescue Black cat,Jamie had to be put down last summer,he was 23 and we had him for 10 year from Raystede...

He chose us that day,we got him,and of the choice of the other 2 cats we had to have him,his owners had him from a kitten but the wife died and the old man could no longer look after him..

Most cats that age are sadly put down, but our cat Jamie came to us,with the old man's jumper,we kept it for company for him to begin with.

He lashed out a few times, but from day 1 he came up and slept on our bed, even though during the day he was cautious.

Over time a real bond formed,he helped our younger cat and they got on great...

Then over time his health started to fail and as i have found to my cost in the past, and done too little too, late, if you love them, you must let them go...

I have about 30 cats, none of them belong to me they are all owned by various people in my neighbourhood but they choose to use my decorative bark chippings in my front garden as their communal litter tray. I will soon be eradicating this problem by fair means or foul.
I am firmly with Commander on this one, I truly detest cats, and I find anyone capable of treating them like their own children (and I have known a few) and defending them to a ridiculous level as, quite frankly, pathetic.

You get nothing back from a cat.

I got plenty back from my cat last night. Luckily, I got a handy towel under most of it.
