Arsenal v Chelsea in 79, was Easter weekend and the Arse won 5-2, virtually condemning Chelsea to relegation...to say that their supporters didn't take it lying down is somewhat of an understatement...the whole experience nearly put me off going to football for life.
First ever league game was when my father took me to Fratton Park to watch Portsmouth play Man United in the old First Division. Dad came from Manchester and was a Reds bigot.
About a year later I was taken to The Goldstone by my brothers to watch The Albion beat Crystal Palace on Boxing Day 1951.
Tottenham Hotspur V Manchester United 1965 Mun U lost 5....1 i think, and i believe the same season Spurs went up to old trafford and lost by the same score
Ipswich 0 v 0 Southampton, sometime in 1969. I can remember nothing about the game at all. A few weeks later we moved back to Sussex and saw my first game at the Goldstone. Last game of the season and we lost 2-0 to Gillingham, who thanks to that win stayed up. I THINK Alex Dawson missed a penalty but my memory is hazy!
