He has a Kanna (hand-plane), a set of Japanese folding saws, two flush-cut saws, a small hand-plane, some Japanese marking squares and knives.
These are his standard kumiko patterns.

Goodness me that's good. I've been playing around making bits and bobs out of wood ever since me and my Dad made a desk tidy back in the first years of secondary school (still use it) - but nothing as professional looking as that. He will never be wanting for work with a skill like that.

Many years since I’ve worked with wood, admittedly at the diametric opposite, where function surpassed form.

For someone young his work is a joy to behold, he’s got one hell of a future.

You must be justly so proud of him.

The patience required for kumiko is an art in itself. It's made more tolerable by the use of jigs, but even still it is seriously impressive

Since I don't live in the UK and Portuguese Customs is a nightmare, I only have kumiko coasters and a larger kumiko piece hanging on the wall, items that he was able to bring in his suitcase. He makes kumiko lamps covered with rice paper and I have my eyes on one if we can find an easy way to transport it. If I was in the UK I would throw £10k at him, get some larger items and become a showhome.
He only uses quality, sustainable wood, which doesn't come cheap. No chipboard!
