Harder than I thought because my immediate reaction was to vote for Coppell who I think is a really nice bloke as well as being a very astute football manager. One of the few people in football with real integrity.

I ruled out McGhee because although I respect what he achieved he overstayed his welcome in the end and I ruled out Adams because he came back and you just can't divorce the two! Wilkins was a good coach but as a manager he was divisive and bad for the club as a whole and none of the others have any right to be anyone's favourite. Well not mine anyway.

So then I came to Gus, a serious contender because of the style of football he has us playing. At the end of the day I want to enjoy watching a game of football as well as supporting the Albion. If I were a neutral I think I would be likely to want to watch his style of play more than most in League 1 (hate to say it but watching Saints this year is also likely to be fun because they will score a hatful of goals given that they are likely to be able to field the top 4 or 5 strikers in this league).

So it was Coppell because of the man he is or Gus because of the football he has us playing? Close call but maybe just because of having had to watch us play some pretty dire stuff in recent years - hoofball of the worst order much of the time - the contrast leads me to go for Gus. Just.

PS - my favourite manager ever? Archie MacAuley! God we played some exciting stuff back in the day............

Coppell gave us the best football and built a team ready to go straight back up.

Oh yes! I wish it was possible to get a DVD of the 1964/65 season. 102 league goals, Bobby Smith , Barry Rees ( R I P ) , average gate of more than 17,000.
Sheer heaven for a (then) 13 year old.

Aadams 1 for me . First ever experience of seeing BHA win ANYTHING!

to turn a club round so completely from tennets here
