You don't see that often these days

Sunderland are away at Barnsley - they're taking over 8,000.

This isn't a rant about the fickle nature of NE support or gushing admiration for such a large following. I'm actually just wondering how often you see an away club given that many tickets for a league match these days. Most clubs don't have the spare space to accomodate such followings these days.

They wouldn't in the Premiership.

It can happen in the Championship. I believe Leeds brought similar numbers to Wigan a couple of seasons ago, (perhaps Starry can confirm).

Correctamundo. We had the entire side along the side of the pitch at the JJB and save for a few hundred empty seats it was full.

Well Wigan are the exception I guess because they have/had no fans - West Ham took 7,000 to Wigan at the end of the season a few years back.

So it was full, expect for the hundreds of bits that weren't?

Rather like taking a bus where half the seats are occupied and claiming that it's full (if you don't count the bits that aren't).

Why not simply say that it was 'nearly full' in the first place instead of beating about the bush?

Only about 200 Sampdoria turned up at the Stadio Olympico on Sunday. Pathetic support. To be honest the home crowed was piss poor. stadium half empty. Looks like italian footie is in big trouble

Because if I had we'd have been spared your wisdom and my Friday would be incomplete.

Sarcasm is one of the lower forms of wit (some might say the lowest), but I suppose Leeds fans should start getting used to lower things at some stage, so now would be as good a time as any other. :)
