At the moment Reading are a bigger club than us. There can be no argument there. They have a stadium, money & are in Div 1. We can argue about our potential (which is definitely there), but at the moment that's all it is - potential

For me being a bigger club is judged on how many fans a club has. With More fans, eventually comes more money better players and stadium. Brighton are a Bigger club than Reading because we have more fans. Only a 10th of them can get into withdean so it is like having a porsche with a speed resricted to 50mph. Arsenal is a bigger club than Sunderland, even though Sunderland get bigger gates (in the Premiership). More fans. Bigger Club.

Neutrals don't really know about Withdeans capacity. People in other parts of the country alway say to me that 6000 is a crap attendance. Then I have to go into the whole thing about Bellotti etc. People just don't understand. If we had Falmer now, how many would we get? 12000, 15000, 20000? If it is any of thoughs figures then we would be regarded as the bigger. It's interresting but who is the bigger QPR or Reading. Qpr have more fan base and get the same attendance as Reading in a Lower division and have around the same size stadium. Its not always about money or positions in tables.
1200 away on a tuesday night at Rushden. Could Reading manage that in Div 2, with a crappy athletics stadium? I think not. Would they have survived the turmoil of Gillingham years? No.

A lot of Boro fans the other week were saying they were going along to the match cos they still saw Brighton as a big side, explaining why they got 10,500 for it rather than about 4-5 thousand for the same fixture last season (against Bristol Rovers I believe).

I'm not so sure we could match Readings average attendance of 16,000 to be fair. Reading are the bigger club..

So goes to show Coppell knows who the larger club is.

Reading fans do you want a manager that would not want your clubs job, was it not for the resrictions his current club.

I'd like to think that I know my football, and know plenty about Albion's recent history, but I would have to say that, as things stand, Reading are without doubt a bigger club than Brighton.

Reading have a fantastic stadium with a much larger capacity than Withdean, on average they get far bigger crowds, they have a much bigger squad, they pay better wages and they pay bigger transfer fees.

I would say that Albion are certainly the bigger of the two clubs in historical terms, and are also the bigger club in terms of future potential, but until the Seagulls have their own stadium and can generate a decent income for themselves, then Reading will remain the bigger club.

We would probably get around 15,16000 though,but that's pushing it.

I agree Brighton are a well-supported team, but claiming you could get 60,000-70,000 for home games is going just a tiny bit over the top, surely?

We all know how much football has changed in the last 10-15 years. You cannot compare then and now, and like you just said, history is the past. The local interest is there, and the demand for tickets is there, if we had been sable to fit them in over the last few years, we'd have had triple our gate.

I'm not sure what Reading's average attendance is this season (or what ours is to be honest!), but I would say that currently the two clubs are about on a par.

We are certainly a bigger club in historical terms than Reading (as are the Albion), and I believe we also have the greater long-term potential (as do the Albion), but I reckon that as things stand Cardiff and Reading are very similar-sized clubs.
