Indeed - this is how UKIP have grown because too many people have immediately shouted "racist" or "xenophobe" every time a discussion around the EU or immigration has taken place. By calling everyone that supports some ( not all ) of UKIP's policies or at least engages in adult intelligent debate around them names all you do is drive people towards voting for them. In reality [MENTION=14574]daveinprague[/MENTION] is a great recruitment tool for UKIP.

Of course neither are all Labour candidates paedophiles or have a history of liaising with the Paedophile Information Exchange. It is because of UKIP's robust attitude to the EU and immigration that they are picking up support, running alongside peoples disgust with the old gang parties and many people share these concerns, whether Guardian reading metropolitan champagne socialists like it or not. There's my own contribution to the political stereotyping game!

I'll be voting UKIP in May and so will our family and friends. We just got fed up with the three main parties and like many posters have mentioned if you dare mention Immigration your are bigoted racists. It's only since UKIP started to gain councilors and their poll ratings are soaring that the three main parties are starting to listen and it's only because the May European elections are around the corner and the general elections next year.

Labour have admitted they got it wrong on immigration, they got it wrong on the economy as well which is why we are in this state.
Same old merry go round when the Tories get in power, and the Lib Dems are a cross between the two.
This country has enough inhabitants for it's size, many people are annoyed and concerned at the prospect of even more immigration and the power that the EU has on what rules we have to adhere/obey.
Many many people have had enough of the main 3, and want to vote for a party that at least seems to put this country first.
Of course anybody that airs these concerns is gets the usual soundbites thrown at them, by some.
The mudslinging will get worse against any party that goes up against the main 3, the nearer the elections get, because many many people just do not trust/want to vote for the same old same old again.
Many are also sick and tired of seeing the EU take over our future.

The same was asked when Lord Owen & co left the Labour Party to form the SDP, the party that led to todays Lib Dems.

I'd suggest that one of the main reasons the Tories have offered a referendum is because of UKIP.

In the European elections they will but not the general election next year.

UKIP could have a phenomenal campaign, it might even put some pressure on parliament to do more about the problems of the EU and immigration, but in reality it will make little difference.

It is democracy that is failing us, our voices aren't being heard, voting for a far-right party won't change this current political paradigm - it would only make it worse. All that voting for them will achieve is you will be able to channel your frustrations into an essentially pointless vote.

I don't think UKIP's new supporters are racist or bigots, they're just frustrated with politics and looking for a solution, but don't you think we would be more likely to see progress by looking left rather than far-right?

Great post and agree with you. To be honest our voting intentions in May is more of a protest vote than anything else. We want our government to govern us and not from Europe. We're not racists but get fed up with the three main parties not listening to the concerns of the majority of the British electorate.

Of course you've a right to an opinion but as I've pointed out, it's from a position of ignorance using your very own criteria. But to claim that this affects you because UKIP have MEPs and you live in the other end of Europe - about as tenuous as me telling Alex Salmond that my views are just as important as his when it comes to Scottish Independence.

And of course it's a load of scollobs that you get involved in this Anti-UKIP crusade because you're a good European. There must be half a dozen openly extremist far-right parties with Euro ambition right on your very doorstep - the biggest being Jobbik, a near neighbour in Hungary. I bet my mortgage that you don't spend even a tenth as much energy reading about/ writing about/ saving the internet from Europe's most successful far-right party right now. You save all that for UKIP, not because you're the good European but because you're obsessed.

Actually, I was with most of the Prague population in the city when the Hungarian so called 'Iron Guard' visited their fascist 'comrades' in Prague for a rather disgusting march through the cities Jewish quarter on the anniversary of Kristalnacht..They havnt tried that shit since .
furthermore, regardless of my location, Im British, and will comment on the politics of my country, and reserve the right to point and laugh at groups like UKIP and their defenders, and promoters.

We all know how much the left like to shout rather than argue rationally and reasonably. Typified by those idiots outside the recent Hove UKIP meeting who when Farage asked if they wanted a debate with him and to listen to UKIP's arguments and then have their say, was predictably met with venomous ranting and of course screams of "racist" at anyone who was going into and within the hall. I am sure that the UKIP candidate in Milton Keynes (who I know) and who won the military medal in the Falklands War defending the wishes of the islanders from a nasty little fascist dictatorship, will not only be "racist" but a "fascist" too.

That's the only reason why the Tories have said that and we all know they'd never honer it. They are like the rest in that they tell us what we want to hear then backtrack and refuse the British people the vote on an in/out referendum.
