The shortened version of 'She's Not There' by Santana. Don't normally like fiddly guitar licks - too self-indulgent - but this is damned fine.

The long instumental bit on a record, which usually comes before the big climatic finish, is the middle eight.

Although, I guess, the middle eight is a bridge of sorts.

I might add the mandolin on 'Maggie May' by Rod Stewart. Saw them on Top of the Pops back in 1971, with John Peel miming the middle eight while The Faces played football all around him, promptly followed by them bowing down at his feet. Peel felt well embarrassed, but it was funny.
