As I say, he’s always been under appreciated by Albion fans generally even now he’s an important part of a title challenging team.

He regularly came up with inportant away goals against stubborn teams. In addition to the above see also Norwich away and Liverpool away x 2. When we needed a bit of inspiration he would regularly provide it. We don’t have a player like him anymore.

He’s a sub generally, I wouldn’t overplay his role for Arsenal.

Brentford had five defenders and one defensive midfielder out with injury against us yesterday and they have adapted and done well anyway its part of the job as a PL manager if injuries would excuse bad results no one would get sacked or questioned

Brentford have lost 17 games this season (we've lost 9) , are still flirting with relegtion , and even lost to relegation rivals Crystal Palace. Last year they finished 9th - but the draw last night means they now have won 2 in 17. I'd argue they have not adapted and done well anyway.

Hmmm I disagree. Tonight was RDZ being a pragmatic manager, which is what many have been seeking for a while.

He nullified Brentford’s strengths, kept us compact and created some decent-ish chances. To play like that away from home against a very well-drilled opposition is good management. Especially when you factor in two of his game changers are unavailable.

RDZ is still having to come up with attacking systems with only one proper wide player (who is massively inconsistent). This is not easy.

If we’re laying blame anywhere, I’m laying it on injury bad luck and the recruitment team for failing to address the issue (incorrectly in the Summer by signing Fati, and by signing no one in January).

Not on RDZ for me tonight.

Yep agree with this. I’m still a bit sore that we didn’t sign a replacement for March when we knew it would be a very long injury. The lack of business in January is why we are unlikely to see Europe next season again. RDZ needs help now at least in the summer

The most screamingly frustrating aspect of the whole night. Happened time and again. Changed a bit with the subs, Enciso and Welbeck driving forward at pace late on. Worst I can recall when Veltman won possession in their half, drove towards the byline, were about 4 of ours running into the box for the cross, and he stopped and passed it back. So frustrating

Veltman I don’t think would be first choice in RDZ’s team given his lack of a real strong attacking dimension but I think the recent defensive performances has meant compromises have had to be made

Good questions:

1. No, but you have to give the guy a chance and I guess I was somewhat silence by the frenzy of fans. media and the like who fawned over him. Had I posted then, would have been crucified, and perhaps fairly so. But, and I can only say this is without the benefit of hindsight, I didn't think he was THE difference; people forget we started 22/23 very well, having also taken 16 points from last 8 games in 21/22, all down to playing Caicedo, whether directly because he made an impact, or indirectly on other players' performances. I just don't believe ANY coach these days makes THE difference. They used to (Ferguson and Clough are outstanding examples) but the analytical approach to recruitment now takes over.

RDZ has been with us for little more than a year. We started to play our attractive brand of football, and get the results, at the start of 2023. Sure, RDZ took over Potter’s team but has improved them no end. You’re being rather harsh when you state the RDZ has done little else substantively - our forays in Europe have proved that, our long term injuries to key players have affected our style of play but we’re still in with a shout for another European tour.

If you’re going to pass judgement on RDZ’s qualities it should be on next season’s performances rather than a knee jerk one on this term’s.

My point is that RDZ has done little that was not already in place. I believe we would have finished 6th if GP had stayed; in fact I would be as bold to say we may have done better as we had a poor run of results to start with (barring the 3-3 at Anfield) while the squad was getting up to speed on RDZ way. In the 14 PL games ending with the 5-2 win over Leicester (GP's final match) we took 29 points; we were already humming, and scoring.

Possibly it would have been less fun, but I don't get all this RDZ ball stuff; our PL record under him is 92 points from 63 games: by no means shabby but scarcely any better than GP's last season. We're only 2 points better off than Bournemouth, who have a far better record than us since beating them. They also have had injury issues.

I dont want him to leave, because I think we have been unluckier then most and I like the guy, but I'm not head in the hands if he does.
