Is it a narrative for a Russian exit from the conflict? We haven’t found any Nazis / we went in on false info / those responsible will be held to account etc etc.
people are over thinking this, trying to see some sort of plan. its simple civil war between two factions of the armed forces, with a Putin who seems quite weak now as he retreats into paranoia. Prigozhin first called out the generals, now spoken against Putin. he cant come back from this. the Russian an army depended on Prigozhin and his army to maintain the war, so dont see how they benefit either.

it may lead to Russian exit, probably once some one decides they've had enough of Putin and the decay of Russian standing and he's asked/forced to leave.

Agreed. Putin is a head case but maybe, just maybe, will stay clear of the nuclear button. Who knows what might happen if someone even worse gets control.
Someone worse will take over. There is an endless list of power-hungry leaders looking to take his place.

Is this the February revolution or are Wagner Group the new Decemberists?

Somewhere over there...
Some reports on Twitter saying Putin's plane has left Moscow heading for St Petersburg, making a run for it?
Interesting times ahead, unlikely, but will Putin press the Nuclear button in a last hurrah? Will Wagner be more likely to go nuclear on Ukraine and follow through with Putin's threats to attack the Western world for supplying Ukraine with weapons?

Nah... Putin won’t run. He’ll be riding a white stallion topless into battle!

At what point will Russian soldiers on the front decide (once word gets through) that the whole thing is pointless and
start laying down their arms en masse?
Well they won't lay down their arms, they'll simply retreat.

Maybe this is the best case scenario. A collapse of the entire war effort and the Russian people rising up against their own leaders. It's impossible to see how any external influence can be applied without potentially disastrous consequences as it gives the warlords the excuse to say they're under an existential attack from the West.

My understanding is that Wagner have the majority of their troops in Africa, so a much smaller force in Russia. I think the group heading to Moscow is to see if they can pick up more rebels on route, rather than a serious attempt to take the city.

Rostov is interesting, currently Wagner are not disrupting supplies passing through, although they are rumoured to have their own men on board army helicopters, to make sure they are not used to attack Wagner. If there is an attempt to retake Rostov by force, it would quickly become difficult and dangerous for the Russians to supply Crimea, risking a collapse of the Russian defences and dealing another major blow to Putin. This looks like quite high stakes stuff and 10K battle hardened troops would be extremely difficult to remove from a Russian city if they decide to defend it.

There isn't a simple button. He'll need to get others to join him, and cause the deaths of themselves and their families. Hopefully they'll say no.

Will Wagner be more likely to go nuclear on Ukraine and follow through with Putin's threats to attack the Western world for supplying Ukraine with weapons?
So Prigozhin gets to rule Russia, and then gets the whole of Russia destroyed? Doesn't sound very sensible.

I’m not sure that sensible enters the thoughts of these megalomaniacs

claims the Putin has gone to St Petersburg. more significantly, many other officials, so it looks like functions of government moving. abandoning Moscow would not be a good look.

I thought St Petersburg was the most liberal westernised city in Russia.
