A quick scan has only two in the last ten years returning. That suggests that it really should be opened up to another place. It's a graveyard for league teams. If they can't come back straight away they get stuck there.

The only justification would be a difference in standard. It's minimal. I think that's why it's almost considered part of the league.
Yeah, I'm not really arguing against the idea, I'm more curious as to whether the limited number of teams being promoted has an effect on whether they come back down or not.

I've had a quick google and the best data I could find(https://www.thestatszone.com/archive/promotion-and-relegation-in-english-football-13946) says that 44% of teams promoted tot he premier league get relegated instantly. The percentages for the championship and league one are 16% and 22%

For league 2 it was actually 0% which very much backs up your argument. Although the data is only from 93-2015. If we go with your 2 in the last ten years that would be 10% which by my shaky maths would more or less equate with 16% for three promotion slots to the championship and 22% for four promotion slots to league one.

Basically I don't know if my theory holds any water at all so I'll be interested to see if there is an increase in immediate returns to the conference if they open up three promotion/relegation spots.

I know plenty will love the effort and shithousery of players like Mullin, but I can't stand his type of player. He's so talented, yet resorts to all that crap of going down all the time, whinging to the ref etc.

I can think of another striker like this that I can’t stand !

This will be a HUMDINGER.

There needs to be a wider discussion too. Teams who go up from Tier 5 tend not to come back in a hurry. So I think it's rotten that only two get promoted. This year is a freak with Notts County's points total in second, but the argument remains.

The crowds too.

Definetly needs to be an easier snd fairer path back into the football league.

I'm an advocate of increasing the football league to 100 clubs with 5 leagues of 20 in each division. 4 up and 4 down from each. The rebalancing would be tricky but I think it would benefit the league in the long run
