Knight did very well up to 3 years ago but with the delays to Falmer the board were no longer able to provide the finance to keep us in the Championship, he says new money would be welcomed but is not prepared to step down as Chairman. When the possibility of David Gold [Birmingham City] arose Knight should have gone out of his way to bring him on board, however the opportunity was missed.
The situation is worsening as the credit crunch will put a stop to Falmer as it has done to the King Alfred project, the standard of play in Div1 can only mean lower gates which will result in us quite likely ending up in Div2 and I cant see the club continuing if this should happen.
As a supporter for over 50 years the present situation saddens me.
When the possibility of David Gold [Birmingham City] arose Knight should have gone out of his way to bring him on board, however the opportunity was missed.
Not sure that's an entirely fair assessment of the situation.
In the first instance, David Gold could only conceivably have become involved with this club or any other had the proposed takeover of Birmingham by Carson Yeung gone ahead.
Once that died on it's arse, nothing that Dick Knight or anyone else could have done would have got Gold on board here because the rules of the league prevent it.
