There have been several conspiracy theories when it comes to the US involvement with Daesh (ISIS) — creating the militant group to overthrow Assad and destabilize the region. This document appears to support some of those theories. https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/06DAMASCUS5399_a.html

My belief is that Syria was a compensation package to Sunni states for what they lost in Iraq.

the narrative to this conspiracy, as with so many, doesn't fit with the real world events. Isil didnt get going going until several years into the Syrian civil war. thats not to say the US didnt meddle, but suggestions of direct involvement with Isil are far fetched. and "the US" didnt write plans, a operator in an agency put forward their analysis. this doesn't automatically constitute policy of government or even the organisation they work for.

In May 2007, a presidential finding revealed that Bush had authorised CIA operations against Iran. Anti-Syria operations were also in full swing around this time as part of this covert programme, according to Seymour Hersh in the New Yorker. A range of US government and intelligence sources told him that the Bush administration had "cooperated with Saudi Arabia's government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations" intended to weaken the Shi'ite Hezbollah in Lebanon. "The US has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria," wrote Hersh, "a byproduct" of which is "the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups" hostile to the United States and "sympathetic to al-Qaeda." He noted that "the Saudi government, with Washington's approval, would provide funds and logistical aid to weaken the government of President Bashir Assad, of Syria," with a view to pressure him to be "more conciliatory and open to negotiations" with Israel. One faction receiving covert US "political and financial support" through the Saudis was the exiled Syrian Muslim Brotherhood.

According to former French foreign minister Roland Dumas, Britain had planned covert action in Syria as early as 2009: "I was in England two years before the violence in Syria on other business", he told French television:

"I met with top British officials, who confessed to me that they were preparing something in Syria. This was in Britain not in America. Britain was preparing gunmen to invade Syria."

The 2011 uprisings, it would seem - triggered by a confluence of domestic energy shortages and climate-induced droughts which led to massive food price hikes - came at an opportune moment that was quickly exploited. Leaked emails from the private intelligence firm Stratfor including notes from a meeting with Pentagon officials confirmed US-UK training of Syrian opposition forces since 2011 aimed at eliciting "collapse" of Assad's regime "from within."

If you don't understand this, there is no point in me trying to convince you otherwise. The real conspiracy is the narrative of lies you seem to be buying into.

Corbyn supporter talking sense shock

Jeremy Corbyn whom I support a great deal should never have given Labour politicians a free vote. He is leader of the Labour party and as such he should have ensured they followed his way of thinking. I totally understand why he didn't do that but by not doing so he has condemned some Syrian civilian to death. Even if only one civilian dies he has blood on his hands like the rest of them.

I am horrified at what is about to happen and dread reading about all the name calling and blame game as soon as we are attacked on the mainland here again like Paris was recently. Corbyn will say ''I told you so'' and Cameron will say ''it would have happened anyway'' Neither of those statements will console the families of the people who may become victims.

This world is quite shambolic at the moment but I suppose there have been wars since the beginning of time but the world wide media access means we are exposed to the knowledge of them a lot more now

You are right if Corbyn really has a principled position on this he should have done everything in his power to prevent this action. Imposing a three line whip may well have stopped Cameron going for this vote or at the very least reduced the number of rebels. The fact he decided to put party unity or self preservation before principles undermines any future criticism he might make.

I wish the politicians would watch this before voting. Great argument against air strikes from someone who was held hostage by Isis.

you are taking one story and overlaying on another. CIA actions to destabilise Syria does not lead to US creating Isil, as you seem to want to imply. and this is all a distraction from the main point i made earlier that Assad is not in an shape of form part of the solution to Syria.

This was the poll I based my opinion on. A more recent one shows the gap has narrowed but still a very clear majority in favour.

If Assad does not form part of the solution he will be hanging from a ''noose'' History tells us that in these countries, past leaders pay for past crimes with their lives as soon as they are deposed.

Not exactly very representative of the population when just over 1500 people voted on it...

Ok mate, it is clear you don't understand let alone want to.

I have not overlayed one story over another. I gave you two links.

I didn't ever say that Assad was part of the long term solution as you are implying.

Look...............

Assad has got to go at some point, but there has to be a democratic secular constitution agreed by all parties first.

I can see that you will still be disagreeing with me even when Assad plays a part in the transition which Russia, Iran, China and many other countries back. I am not the only person in the world who has this view so we will have to see how this plays out. Your scenario of Assad having to go overnight to bring peace to Syria won't happen.

Are you serious? Russia are protecting Asaad, and are the only country invited by the current Syrian government. The moderate rebels still murder, rape, sell women as slaves etc. The only difference is America backs them so apparently they're the good guys! The only people in this with a bit of credibility are Jordan and the Kurds.

How come no one told David Cameron this ?
