if he can win the FA Cup then yes

It shows he can win something

Who was the last England manager to win the FA Cup as a manager ???

I think it was Terry Venables, but Steve Mc Claren won the League cup. McClaren had Venables as his assistant when England failed to qualify for the 2008 Euro's, so I am not sure the cup wins helped all that much.

I say no based on current performance, but maybe later once he gets more experience and turns us into a mid/mid upper table team.

Imagine the baying press if he'd lost a game like last night (although in no way was that his fault).

Having a squad of players picked for him by the suits at the FA and the previous weeks form wouldn't suit Potter at all , he's the type of manager that would try to do things his way , no way would he be allowed to try and actually win something.

The answer to this poll is obviously, yes. I assume that were he to be appointed England manager then he would have had to have been very successful with a club in a strong league. In such a scenario, I'd wish him well. As we are not near that scenario yet, the poll may as well ask 'Would you like to be appointed England manager?'

Exactly this. Although to be fair, what had Southgate been successful at before he was appointed? I don't think ARSELICKING counts.

Speaking as a Scotland fan I would absolutely LOVE it if that daft over-promoted BENNY were to be put in charge of your national squad :lolol:

Scotland can have him. No way good enough for England. Half our fan base calling for his head few weeks back. Slow down people.

I think he likes the everyday coaching, being with the players and moulding them to a style of play. He would not like the media duties of an England manager and from what I can glean, does not have a sufficiently thick skin to take all the inevitable criticism that comes with the job.

Whilst the job has a certain prestige it is not really a step up from Premier League management. I doubt if Gareth Southgate would get a Premier League job.

Yes please. What a job. Millions of pahnds to ponce about watching ManUre versus whoever they are playing, picking a squad based on player ratings in the Daily Mail (**** - would that mean' I'd have to read it? Hose me down!), then fly off somewhere nice and 'Alright Kanesy, you're playing up front. Usual job. Slab head, back 4' etc. And we get through to the semis and go out on pens. Back home, Chianti on the veranda, give the missus one. Watch Jules Holland on the telly. How ****ing easy is that?

"No way good enough", funny how some people seem to think that this is the most glorious role in the world and that there's some kind of fantastic managerial tradition where only the true greats can get the job. What exactly makes Southgate better than Potter? McClaren? Hodgson? Allardyce? If those were good enough, I dont see why Potter wouldnt be.
