I think that we've all become a bit carried away by being top of the table for a couple of weeks. All of a sudden people start thinking nothing to this Championship, except of course that it is packed with quality teams with quality players. For me the warning bells started to ring when we conceded the late equaliser against Leeds. We seem to be developing a habit of giving the ball away in bad areas, and looking to thread long balls through the middle, leaving us exposed at the back when they get cut out.
I have read 1 or two posts on another thread suggesting that 'back room' staff think Gus isn't adapting too well. If that is the case why is he already trying to bring in new players? We've already brought some top quality names - CMS and Vicente, together with some useful squad players in Hoskings and Buckley - I would expect to see 1 or 2 central defenders and a ball-holding midfielder brought in shortly, to stop the mini-blip and steady the ship.
It is a big step up, but Gus saw us right last year, and there is no reason to think that he won't do so again. We just need to grit our teeth and look at the table again at Christmas for a more realistic appraisal of our season.
