I was thinking of going to the cinema the other day, cos I want to see the new Matrix film (I know I know, its crap but I wanna see it ok ?). All my mates were either working, already doing something, or didn't fancy it. I thought about going on me own, but I thought I'd look a bit sad. Should I have gone ?

Although I've never actually done it, it certainly wouldn't bother me! In fact if it a film you REALLY want to see then it's probably the best way!

I have done in the past. You're there to watch a film not chat. If you've got nothing to do its a way to kill a few hours.

had the same dilemma myself once. decided to go , but then spend the whole film hiding in the back row hoping no-one i vaguely knew would walk in and see me, rather than watching the film, making the whole thing rather pointless.

I couldn't do it, I laugh at billy no mates types and normally they are star trek loving saddos with stains in peculiar places on their trousers.

It's a sad state of affairs when you have to have the permission of others to enjoy yourself! Don't worry what other people think, usually it due to their own insecurities that they need to do everything as a group!

I must admit, I have been on my own once. I bunked off work, but by lunchtime I'd almost chewed my own arm off with boredom, so that afternoon I went to see Ace Ventura 2 - When Nature Calls. It had already been on for a few weeks, and I was the ONLY ONE in the whole cinema. I sat right in the middle, and felt quite awkward cos I was alone and laughing like a drain at it (specially when he crawls out of the rhinos arse). Later on, one of those workers with the little torches came in and sat down near the front, and that made me feel even more self-concious.

Dunno why though.

I don't like action films and such like so Ned does occasionally go on his own if people he knows are busy

If you like your films, and you're single, it's a pretty straightforward choice sometimes. Either a) you miss lots of movies that you want to see, or b) go on your own. I've been quite a few times on my own in the last couple of years, but that's partly because I work funny hours and can go in the day, to fill time like some people would go shopping or whatever.

On a slightly different note, went with the new bird to 'In the Cut' on Tuesday, both horrific and very erotic in places, not sure I'd entirely recommend it but Meg Ryan is excellent and the Latino fella is pretty good too, can't remember his name.

Star Trek saddos ?

What are you saying?

Whats wrong with Star Trek?

Notihng worng with star trek as such. I tinhk its dull as shit but notihng wrong with it, its just the sad geeks who watch it and go to star trek conferences.

I know a guy who can name every episode of every variety of star trek and what happened in them. Very f***ing sad.

I go by myself sometimes, as don't see anything wrong with it. Having said that I would never go to a showing from 8pm onwards on my own as that looks a little a sad.

In my Student days I worked at Brighton Odeon during the holidays and quickly saw just how many people go to the Cinema on, it is socialy acceptable.

Cinema is such an anti social outing, especially for a first date.

I do like going to the cinema as I pay a cople of quid for two hours completely uninterupted sleep. Lovely.

I go to the cinema by myself all the time, there's no big deal. No one cares.

There's nothing wrong with Star Trek
