I am interested in teeth whitening, does that count as cosmetic treatment?
Get it done. After 15 or so years of drinking black coffee on a daily basis, my teeth had gone a bit yellow. Cost about £250, but the difference it made was amazing and well worth it. People react far better to someone with a good set of teeth.

I'm slightly surprised that Carpal Tunnel is considered to be improvement surgery. Maybe it's a different procedure from releasing painful trapped nerves in the wrist?

I switched from drinking black coffee to herbal teas - apparently they are just as bad for colouring your teeth. Although my reasons for switching was nothing to do with teeth colouring.

How long does the whitening last for, and is it something that you can get done at a local dentist practice or do you have to go somewhere else.

Actually laser eye surgery IS something I'd consider - the only caveat is that it apparently can affect your night vision.

I wondered about that one - hardly cosmetic is it?

I can't speak from personal experience (the aforementioned perfection) but a close friend had laser eye surgery several years ago and has never had any ill effects from it whatsoever.

Obviously, he may just have been lucky but if I were ever in a situation where it would help me I think that I'd want to do it now I've seen how quick and easy it can be.

But of a strange comment nw! Being utterly neurotic I always rinse with water after every cup of coffee. My teeth are a bit yellow in places from fags, tea/coffee but I'd rather them 'natural' looking like this than sone of the ridiculous dazzling white bleach jobs a couple of work colleagues have had done.

I'm going to get the Missus a boob job for her 40th, so I've got 4 years to save up for it! Having 3 kids have sucked the life (literally) out of them, they used to be so pert (

This woman (classic lady that lunches) in front of me on Hove beach last week had what looked like a fantastic, natural looking boob job that I could only admire...until she laid down on her back. They just looked ridiculous, like two water balloons stuck on and they weren't even all that big. All her fellow lunching ladies (and their array of pampered poodles and shar peis) were reasonably flat chested and looked so much better.

The way I did it, the dentist takes an impression of your teeth to make a rubber mould that can be worn comfortably for several hours. This mould is used to apply the whitening gel. You can get gels that are for use overnight (you sleep with the mould in), or stronger ones that you just use for 45-60 mins at a time.

I first did it about 4 years ago. Initially it took about 8 evenings of wearing the mould with the whitening gel in it to get a really nice colour. Since then I've re-done it twice, but only needed 2 applications each time to get that same white colour back.

A work colleague of mine had really badly stained teeth through smoking. He's given up the fags and recently had the stained teeth done by the dentist, through what he described as grit blasting. Don't know what it cost him, but they look 100x better.

It would be a private procedure, but your dentist may well offer it, as it's not uncommon. If not, a Google or Yell search should give you plenty of cosmetic dentistry specialists.

Doesn't it weaken the enamel on the teeth?

It's my own fault - I was doing well, exercise and a good diet - a change of job has seen to that (getting home later). I REALLY need to get back into it!

Ah, so you already know the answer - you're just fishing to see who's had their moobs seen to!

My posture is pretty bad and my back a bit rounded, I could probably sort that out myself with Yoga or something .

This. Perfectly white teeth looking fking stupid. Simon Cowell is case in point. And there was some gimpy boy band lad pressing the button on the national lottery a couple of weeks ago, who looked similarly laughable.

There's a big difference between the brilliant white 'Hollywood' teeth that you get from porcelain veneers, like on Simon Cowell and Katie Price, and the white that you get from stain removal. My teeth look natural; they're a similar colour to what they were when I was a teenager (before I started drinking black coffee and red wine).
