More to the point, do you think he'd have saved Fraser's shot IF it had been going in, rather than clipping the outside of the post?

I convinced myself on the phone to my son this morning that he would have saved it......what do you reckon people of NSC?! Know it's an irrelevance by the way! :)

In my mind, yours and a few others, he would

But No (in the replays he doesn't get close to it)

When Trossard's first went in I thought it was the sort of goal we'd be criticising our keeper for not saving. That it looked like the keeper didn't stretch as far as he could, almost pulling his arm back. But watching replays, particularly the one from behind the goal, I could see much better how it was just a really well placed shot that he had no chance with. I imagine if the keeper was stood a couple more feet to his left he (or sanchez) would have a chance of saving it, but it didn't look to me like the keeper was in the 'wrong' position so it's unlikely either would move to the left.

Easy to say after the event. The Newcastle keeper might have done a bit better given another go at them.

There is no need to compare Ryan and Sanchez. Sanchez is currently performing better than Ryan did but that does not erase what Ryan did for 3 seasons. If Sanchez is as good as he might be, I regret that he will not likely hanging around with us for very long. It might be helpful if he makes a mistake or two once we are safe !!

Is it possible to be a Sanchez fan without being anti Ryan?
Ryan was a great servant for us. (Bit disappointing to see him liking that tweet poking fun at Sanchez though, but ho hum).
He’s not as good as what we have seen as Sanchez though, clearly, although there is no disgrace in that. The same goes for the Newcastle keeper. The margins are small - a tiny fingertip touch round the post can change a game.
Which led to my question.
Fraser’s shot wasn’t on target btw. Maybe Sanchez had it covered?
And don’t worry about Maty. He’s perfectly happy at his big club.

You seem to be backtracking! You're the one who made reference to Ryan.

Personally, I'm a fan of both. Sanchez is a promising keeper but not error free.

Nope, that one was going in.

Fair enough to say I had a nibble at Ryan in a later post but the original post was clearly a thumbs up to Big Bob and nothing against Ryan.
Would Bob have stopped any of those goals that tended to fly past Ryan towards the end ? We will never know. It’s an interesting one though. If he’d been in the other net last night I doubt it would have been 3. He makes saves he shouldn’t.

a galaxy far far away
Doubt any keeper would have saved any of the three goals.

Dunks header against Saints, though it would have been a brilliant stop

Useless lazy twat so so casual

Mistakes happen even with the elite keepers.

Unlike all other positions on a football pitch, goalkeeper errors are the most visible and costly.

It was unfortunate. It was a bread and butter save that he would catch 99% of the time.

These things happen even to the elite keepers.

Need to carry on keeping the faith and support for our top young keeper.

Hardly a 'save'. Just a routine catch - he would have done better to have missed it altogether, it wasn't going in.

Oh well.

I disagree. I think with Bob, it’s a lot lower than 99%. He often gets away with them, but his reputation for doing this and ‘having one in him’ that’s expected every game is well and truly established and has been for some time. Difference is, people said with age and experience it would stop. But it shows no sign of and I think he’ll always be known for it. Even after retiring. Harsh as that may be, even if he’s the best we’ve ever had.

Sorry this is a huge game - he has had nothing to do - nothing

It was dreadful no one near him he knocked it back into the only area that they could score

Should have been 5-1 though 🤬🤬🤬🤬
It may have been dreadful but he wasn't being lazy.
I watched most of it . . . . dominated possession but not ruthless enough.
Surprised Palarse looked so poor, but that's because we made them look poor.

Sanchez mad a mistake. We move on.
