Would replacing Jones with Calderon as assistant manager improve things next season?

The sheer stupidity of Brighton fans is literally amazing. I have no idea if Nathan Jones is a good coach or not but he was chosen by better minds than us and this character assassination, seemingly based on nothing more than a slight altercation when he played for Yeovil is bizarre to say the least. But, no, lets replace him with Calde COS WE LIKE HIM MORE but never mind if he has any better coaching credentials than Jones. Give me strength.

I had the pleasure of witnessing Calde give a motivational speech to a group of AITC jobseekers last year. He was inspiring, and had everyone in the palm of his hand.

As some have said, we have absolutely no idea what Jonesy does in training.

Calde, assuming he is taking the requisite qualifications, would be first-class in a management role due to his intelligence, knowledge, enthusiasm, and affability.

I'd like us to replicate the old Liverpool way of promoting from within but feel that may be a bit old hat nowadays.

Have to agree, Tony has built us a stadium, signed a manager who got us to within touching distance of the Premier League, replaced him with another manager who wants to play football the right way. He has also built a training facility that will be
amongst the best in the country. We have teams playing the "Brighton way" at all levels and youth team players breaking into the first team. Things are looking great for the long term and we have had some excitement and some of the best football ever played by the Albion over the last few years. So did TB then decide, for a laugh, to derail it all and get a clueless gimp in as assistant manager who obviously has no talent and is disliked by players and fans alike when he should have appointed a player like Calde who has no experience of coaching that I am aware of. Really?

I know nothing much about Jones skills as an assistant manager and he does look like a street urchin but some fans think getting rid of him and getting Calde in as assistant manager will make a massive difference and improve the management team? I'll trust TB on this, if he thinks Jones is the man, that'll do for me.

So bored of this endless negativity towards Jones. No-one knows what he does, whether he's a plus or a minus to the club or what Oscar thingks of him. And yet he's always singled out for criticism just because he was a knob years ago. Who cares? Get over it.
I love Calde but he has no experience in that area and Jonesy came with a great rep from Charlton.

Absolutely this. Do we imagine Tony and his team stuck a bit of paper on the wall with random names of available coaches / potential number twos, blindfolded each other, drawn lots to see who sticks a pin in, and thought "Yeah, he'll do!"
Jonesy was highly rated at Charlton, and in my view along with Oscar has done a decent job in often testing circumstances. Some of the comments he gets on here are bizarre.

A very desperate man, sad to see. Every single interview that Adams gave in those days showed almost a total disregard for the role he himself was playing in contributing to how dreadful we were at the time.

So if anyone were to judge Nathan Jones mainly on the back of that - one of Micky Adams' desperate efforts to blame absolutely everyone else other than himself for how appalling we were - well, they want their bloody head examining.

I can't think of a single fan who wouldn't love the sight of Calde as part of our management team. Has anyone suggested this to Tony?
Tony is a fan, so if you're right, he's already thinking it.

But, and I know this is a bit controversial, is it possible that Nathan Jones is good at his job? If he is, perhaps he deserves to keep it.

I think one day calde will be part of the management team and I for one would love that. As we all know jones isn't the most liked man around the dressing room, I get the impression it's not the same for calde

Nope. Nothing to do with Mike. In fact I only saw this some years later. I was stood on that terrace and Jones pulled one of the most cynical acts of cheating I've ever seen and I can never respect him as a result.

Do you think the same about El-Abd with some of his embarrasing cheating?

That basically rules out having respect for most of the current Brighton team, certainly Poyet, certainly El Abd - all of whom have displayed some pretty cynical acts of cheating over the years (as of course have most players in most teams).

I love Calde as much as the next man: it's humanly impossible not to. But being popular can be very far from an asset when motivating footballers, I'd say.

OK then wise guys, turn the question around: please explain exactly what Nathan Jones brings to the table apart from an O level in Spanish and a couple of coaching badges?

He's Welsh and he's got a dodgy haircut - that's enough for me.
