England have a terrific ability to play terribly, but win. Because they have stars which can pull off moments of sheer class, but as above I think a strong club side could demolish any national team because everybody knows everything about each other (with the exception of Spain aka barca-real all stars)

The England performance tonight was in stark contrast to the very exciting, slick, pacy performance Man Utd put on against Arsenal - in part due to excellent performances from a large number of young English footballers - several on the pitch tonight.

Club teams are undoubtably better organised and tuned to teammates play/movements.... but I cannot help but feel that the England team is in sum, lesser than its parts.

I would have some sympathy for Capello in that the top players in the country seem unable to play possession football. However - as he picks the bleedin' team .................

Have to admit the atmosphere at the amex is alot better than that at wembley last night...

Exactly, club sides are used to playing together week in week out, whereas international teams may only get a half dozen games over a season. I reckon you would get more passion, commitment and entertaining football watching Fulham play Wolves than you do at most England games. Given the supposed stars on the pitch last night the game was pretty disappointing and at times I considered switching channels!

I seem to recall the crowd being quoted at around 70k, with about twenty minutes to go it looked like about half of them had gone home already.

England 0-0 Algeria last year. An excellent point in a scintillating macth against a phenomenal Algeria team. One for the ages.
