"What do you expect to see from a Torquay hotel window?! Herds of wildebeast sweeping majestically across the plains, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Sidney Opera House?!"

Priceless humour and script writing of the highest order.

Easily the best episode, one of the best lines in comedy.

'I expect to see the sea'

'The sea is over there madam - it's between the land and the sky'

"Well I can't see it."

"Well then might I suggest that madam moves to a hotel closer to the sea..."

(under breath)

"...or preferably in it."

Mine changes from each watching. But I was at a barbeque in the summer and one of the guests said "It's got a lot of topaz in it..."
not realising what she had done.

Ten other guests, including myself shouted "Sybil! Sybil!"

Has to be the Germans.

Can't believe FT was only voted 5th best comedy on BBC recently - behind The Vicar of Dibley!!!

Fawlty Towers always made me angry rather than amuse me.

Yes, I do enjoy the Liverbirds.

Just because I'm not a fan of Fawlty Towers doesn't mean I haven't got a sense of humour.

Yes, I do enjoy the Liverbirds.

Didn't the Liverbirds end about 30 years ago? I'm thinking Nerys Hughes and Polly (James?)

or was there a newer edition??
