Nope, that is 4. Gone are the days where football teams play a 2-3-5 formation. We now have much more midfielders and they have other abilities than just passings, some also shoot and some cross the ball from a wide position. Gus tends to play with 5 of them due to not having the quality required to only play 4 but now we have some very good ones he might TRY against a decent side to see where we are lacking and how achievable it is

So now we play 4-1-5? Ok.
By the way we had all those players last season.

It boggles the mind that after two years of Gus' football the lesson people have taken is that midfield isn't important.

Midfield has always been the most important area of the pitch, especially for Gus, although he was obviously a striker because he used to score goals at Chelsea

Bit of a tip for you. Next time you go to Woodside Road instead of queueing for 30 mins for chips, pop round to the chippy, Old Nicks, up the road. There and back in 10 mins. Job done!

Very pleasant except a bit crowded in the little stand on the half-way line. And with the great smell of stale Brut - or whatever is used these days.

Not much to learn in those conditions. Couple of the young lads looked promising - although we do seem to specialise in little lads.

Yep. Same here. Old school friendlies. Shame about the weather - I like a wander around the ground.

If that was the lad in the midfield holding role - it was great to see him telling people where they should be to be available.

44 was Rodgers. Barker looks a decent type, willing to run at players.

Which one was Charlie Oatway Junior? Wouldn't have recognised him on the pitch in the monsoon. Saw him after in the bar, very pretty young blonde friend with him

This post is just terrible, Gus will never play Bridcutt on his own in midfield, move on.

Back from the game so here's my view.

Brezovan and back 4 - didn't have much to do at all really. Passed it well and Calde/Vincelot made good runs forward.

Dicker/Sparrow - Nothing special but were very solid.
Harley - A couple of stray passes but did look good going forward. You could see he was always looking for the runs to be made by the strikers.
LuaLua - Best player in the first half and decent goal. Linked well with Vincelot.
Barnes/Agdestein - Both made good runs, etc, but nothing special.

Subs that came on, Oatway, Rodgers, Barker looked very good and passed it with pace and vision!

Pretty brief but nothing much happened.

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, the rain made it difficult. Number 7 was Barker and 44 was Rodgers. I believe number 12 was Dickenson so would have meant Oatway was 11?

Ben Dickenson. Started wide left, think he finished on the right. Oatway Jr. was the small(er) lad who slotted into central midfield just ahead of Rodgers. Both noticeably left-footed. Barker was by far the most impressive of the second half subs.
