I gave up my Albion season ticket for a Whitehawk one. I haven't watched Albion at any ground for three years. I'm not sure what the definition of a 'strong' Albion fan is, but folk have their reasons for doing things, like me.

But having seen the Albion play on 85 different grounds, mostly during the bad old days, and having no less love for them now than I did then, I guess I'm still a 'strong' fan.

I feel a bit sad reading this.

?? Season Ticket prices at the Albion have been flat for three years now. Away tickets have been £30 for 5 years. Albion games are nearly all sell outs. And non league football is more popular than ever. Especially in Sussex.
Neither forms of football are cheap but it’s probably the economy, cost of living , transport and just personal choice rather the cost of a ticket.

Before Xmas, on my quest for the 92 grounds, I visited Harrogate and Sutton. Whilst these clubs are obviously not non-league, I can totally understand the attraction of watching a lower level of football. Everything seemed easier, friendlier, cheaper and no knobheads.

I can see that's a genuine response so to mention I gave it up for health reasons. I would love to go to games, and would be able to attend the away ones too. But it is what it is, to use the old phrase. With regard to the Whitehawk season ticket, I have it but hardly go. I do like supporting them as my local team though.

Still, I don't miss a game. It's either on the television or I'm listening to Johnny and Warren on the radio, the bestest ever double act !

Why on Earth would you take a dog to a football match?

Some of them enjoy going I like seeing dogs when I go to non league games, I sometimes chat to the dogs owners about their dogs.
Non league dogs is a Twitter account I enjoy looking at.

I like non-league as much as the next man, but realistically there's not going to be a mass move from Brighton to watching the likes of Lewes, Newhaven, Whitehawk etc. instead.

I have been doing both for many years, definitely enjoy non league but wouldn’t want to give up watching the Albion.

This is a genuine question as I’m out of the loop entirely here, but have non ST tickets stayed at the same price?

It’s to the clubs credit that season ticket prices haven’t risen in 3 years, but it’s scant consolation to somebody who can’t commit to a season ticket.

As you say though, the real driving factor in making Brighton games a more expensive day out isn’t really the tickets for a lot of people. I imagine that train tickets are a pretty big stumbling block for a lot of young lads who want to do away games for example.

having visited Worthing town centre yesterday, I was sadly shocked how many mobility scooters were on display, and the drivers were not all over 65…
The youth on display, joggers, crop tops, and full balaclava masks for some reason, made me check Google maps too make sure I had not inadvertently not driven to Blackpool by mistake…

Fair enough. I now recall reading some stuff about agro and even racism at this fixture?

Harrogate and Sutton were fine though. I still have Barrow on my list….I get the sense this might be a different experience to these two.

It’s only 4 degrees in Worthing…maybe the wearer was cold? Either that or wanted to rob a bank?

I’ve not been to Worthing for over a decade but have a number of friends from the area. All have now moved away but return often and comment on the changing demographic. This is backed by the upturn in cafes, bars and restaurant scene as well as the political shift. I guess some areas will retain the old-school but then your description is not too dissimilar to George Street in Hove.

All a bit over the top with Worthing. They are a very good well supported club but looking on here you would think there was 5/6k watching. and not 1.6k
It was not long ago you could go to a non league game for a fiver interesting how £14 now looks on LRs inflation scale.
Important all these clubs survive and they do because of much voluntary work behind the scenes. However in general players are a different matter. Big changes each season as off to play for highest payer. Shame it has reached this level

£250 for a ST for 21 games at Worthing compared to £550 for 19 at the Amex. Worthing is actually quite high for 6th tier, Havant & Waterlooville do an early bird ST for £150. Taking a kid and partner to the Amex is best part of £1300, Worthing that’s going to be £550. Think cost definitely comes into it, these clubs are seeing their highest average gates in their history.
