My dad took me to the Spurs game in 1978 when I was about 13 and we were in the North Stand. Spurs 'fans' had also got into the North Stand and I remember how frightening it was when the they charged, causing a crush. I recall someone's arm being trapped around my neck and feeling myself struggling to breathe. Fortunately I got dragged onto the pitch by a copper and my dad ended up with a massive bruise all down one side of his chest. I spent the rest of the game in a state of fear in the North west corner watching the Spurs yobs left in the North. Hated Spurs ever since.

Remember well being pulled out of the North Stand and on to the pitch . Then helping others to do the same . Spent the game sitting on the touchline by the South Stand goal .
Think the result was 3-1 but football at the Goldstone would never be the same again . Like you hate Spurs to this day .

Southampton FA cup 86 I think. Packed Goldstone and police kept saints fans away from the ground until about half hour before kick off. When they arrived about 5000 of them the place erupted into a great atmosphere. Not much actual trouble in the ground but after down by Hove station was any absolute free for all. The North end of Goldstone villas was a battlefield. Brighton fans were well up for that one and surprised the life out of saints. Argus reports saying Brighton fans were the main aggressors. Mental.

Horrible experience. My old man wasn't a football fan, but he was dying of cancer at the time, and wanted to attend one match with me at the Goldstone as a 'Dad and Lad' event, as something I would remember.

After the match we became separated as it was a bit lively in Hove Park, and he was knocked down by some Stains scumbags.

Friday night game? No trouble in the ground but everyone came charging down Sackville Road after. Was pretty hard to work out who was chasing who for a bit.

I also remember an FA Cup game against Scunthorpe where they came to make trouble by the North and Hove Park after. One picked on the smallest and youngest of our group and was chased off by none other than Baron Pepperpot while another couple ran from our group of wobbly alikies trying to mind our own business. Top lads? Don't think so.

Edit - can't think either of these handbags incidents were a patch on the London teams in the 70s & early 80s but those were before my time.

Yes it was bad, but the worst one I ever saw was millwall when we won 3-2 evening game with them being put underneath the west stand...afterwards was really scary and I can remember sitting on a doorstep in goldstone lane hoping the maniacs wouldn't set about me...

The only time I have been genuinely petrified at a football game and The year 1983 when Chelsea came down, me and some mates went in the she date the return game as we knew there was to be loads of Chelsea in the brighton end.

Not in the ground , but ile go with Huddersfield at the goldstone they poor buggers got a right kicking after the match caught between two groups of Brighton in the street up from the east stand which name escapes me , the street looked like a war zone after , police were caught on the hop and took ages to realise what was happening .

They started it and Brighton finished it , I actual stood over a couple of Huddersfield fans who laying in the gutter as they had had enough I was protecting them from Brighton fans there mates had legged it towards the station. The road was Fonthill road I think they got caught between the North Stand crew and the Southstand crew.

Yes, my brother and I had met up with family from Huddersfield and we walked down that road and were caught in the middle of that. It was interesting as I saw two brighton fans setting about a Huddersfield fan and his kid. all big and hard in a mob but then a couple of weeks later, both of them cowering in a doorway I think it was at Luton ( but it may have been some other game) I think was was the whole mentality them days where people we all bravado and wanting to fight people when they were in a group, but on their own, pathetic cowards.
