Love that place, proper pub, I was in there before a gig at the Concorde the other night for the first time in years. It was amazingly familiar, good times

It's a top pub, brews his own upstairs doesn't he. Super stuff. Went in a couple of times last summer, sitting out watching the world go by., Aye, good stuff.

The Mash Tun is another overrated piece of crud, it might not be the worst pub in Brighton but I don't know why it gets so busy for any reasons other than it's location. The Wagon and Horses opposite is far better.

Location and seating outside. End of. Shit pub otherwise.

Is there any worse than the "Whistle Stop" on Boundary Road. £4.10 for a pint of Stella!! It's not as if i'm paying for the ambiance or the fit bird behind the jump to look at.

£4.10 in that Karzi......... I'm still shaking my head in disbelief

I heard The Bev has reopened. It's 100% that, there's no competition.

What was the one just down the road from the Spreadgeagle that's shut now? The Lion & Unicorn? I nearly got glassed for winning a game of darts in there. I was seriously lucky to be fair and he was steaming.

Didn't know The Spread had shut down. Used to be one of my meet up pubs on fridays and sats before before the usual pub crawl in town.

I used to use the Hollingbury a lot back in the day until, one afternoon I was threatened by a knife wielding maniac who tried to extort £50 off me for some bugle I hadn't bought off him.

The landlady was fit as you like though.

When is your guide to Brighton & Hove pubs book coming out?
Think you are the winner for visiting the most pubs in this thread!:drink:

Many years ago we tried to visit every pub within a mile of the Clock Tower - I think there was a ridiculous number like 85. We took the week off work to do it - and failed. Mainly because they still shut at 3pm then, and we'd go home for a kip - and never really have the enthusiasm in the evening...

The Mash Tun used to be a good workers lunchtime pub when it was The Volunteer.

There really isn't any pubs in B&H that I've not been to. Add to that Worthing as well and... Well let's just say its a good job I stopped drinking.

There's many a pub that's changed hands, has gone up in the world, and down over the decades. The thing that surprises me is that no matter how gentrified pubs become they still seem to attract the same sort of clientele...it's worse than that actually, a boozer will bar all it's troublemakers, change its name, decor and demographic and the building itself will turn decent clients into total ****tards and bellends.

Weird.

I think it was called Sniper, on Carden Avenue, very rough by all accounts, before it got shut down and turned into Sainsburys local. Royal Sovereign in Preston St does a good trade in stolen meat.

I know we havn't got on very well but this has made me laugh out very loud, the Sniper as you were lucky you didn't get shot in here.
It was called the Snipe.

I live up that way. The Constant is a proper party pub. Had a great night in there after the Sheffield Wednesday game last year. Ended up smoking some weed with a punter outside the pub at 02.30am.

You could do a chart of Hanover pubs, they all go up and down so regularly. Two in big decline are the Charles Napier and the Dover Castle. The Dover was a great pub in the mid noughties, always rammed but hit hard by the recession. It was saved by Simon who brought in the market and a coffee bar. I really thought it was going to be shit but it had a great vibe. The new owners are utterly clueless. I went in a couple of months ago and a pub that was rammed a year ago was totally dead. When I tried to order a beer I was told that they had nothing on draught as they had forgotten to order any beer? It then became known as the pub with no beer.

The Napier has been in decline since Matt and Christine left last year. Fullers have really made a good job of ****ing it up in the last year. Let's hope the new landlord can revitalise it.

Nice pub now but does have some bargains on offer!

Lovely pub. I no longer live in Brighton but when I get back I always make a point of a pint in there. Very fond of that pub.

Likewise. Having grown up in the pub it's been rather sad seeing it going downhill in the last year.

Ahh the snipe. Me and my mates got chased by a load of blokes with pool cues and table legs. We were only 15 and walking past! Turned out that one of the blokes chasing us was my mates Dad!
