Worst Pitch you have seen a Game Played On ?

Aldershot v Albion FA Cup late sixties, by far.

Brighton. NOT KEMPTOWN!
Before reading this thread, that's exactly the match I would have chosen.
If I remember correctly, the only player who came off of the pitch at the end of the game who didn't look like a chocolate soldier was Kit Napier, who didn't have a speckle of mud on him.
So how about v Southend at Withdean?

I remember waiting outside The Goldstone for a night game in the pissing rain, while they cleared the pitch with a 'Whale' (?) water removal machine borrowed from SCCC. The game went ahead, but the pitch was only just passable. Early/mid nineties IIRC...

Aldershot was like the Adur mud flats. Unplayable. Not a hint of grass anywhere. An Albion supporter waded on to the pitch before KO and it took him over ten minutes to change ends. The Police did not fancy interfering either.

I remember a game against Portsmouth, early 80s, that was a wet as wet can be.

Thankfully the North had a roof at that time.

Home to Bristol rovers on Boxing Day in early 90s. Lost to an early goal and never looked like equalising as pitch was unplayable.
Also got totally drowned at Barnet around 2000, but the pitch was at least ok.

Wettest was Albion 0 Walsall 0 at half-time, late seventies at the Goldstone.

Stamford Bridge in 76 was pretty bad. We were playing Palace in an FA Cup 2nd Replay (the famous Mullery one!!!). The match had been postponed twice and really had to go ahead. What a game!

Oldham away on the plastic pitch. Bounce like a trampoline, every layer of skin taken off your legs in the first challenge. I played on it against their fans one year and I also played Sunday games in mud bogs. Give me mud bogs any day.
