sorry but as oine who suffered that season , there was no way we were staynig in that divison.

And as a sign of just how good that side was, look at how far adrift we finished in that division and how m,ny players survived the clear out?.

Yeah, but Brighton only finished bottom because of what happened under Lloyd's reign that season. OK, so Mullery didn't buy players that were at the peak in their careers, but isn't that because there was little money in the kitty? Even so, his second spell's record was reasonable.

Under Mullery Pld24 W7 D7 L10 F25 A29 Pts28 Pos15
Under Lloyd Pld18 W2 D5 L11 F12 A25 Pts11 Pos22

I don't think Mullery can really be blamed for how the season panned out after he had left. Can he?

Granted the rubbish continued under Lloyd but that was what it was.... a continuation.

The seaon started rubbish and the rot was well and truly established when Lloyd stepped in.
Mullery had put a team together that simply didn't work. ANd it should have.

Look at the players he had.....

I was told, albeit by lloyd, that on taking over, his first instruction was to halve the wage bill!

The team he took over was superb, he took a consistently top 5 side in the then 2nd div to the depths, yes boardroom struggles but come on, lets not be blinded by that one season and the promotion after taking us down. He was he for over a decade and mostly he was consistently bad. Tried to sign non league gems. Non leaguer summed him up

Consistently top 5 side?

Can you show me which seasons you are referring to please.

I recall

1983/4 9th
1984/5 6th
1985/6 11th

Adams Mk II for several reasons:

Virgo at RIGHT MIDFIELD;
Deciding to say to Joel Lynch "sorry mate, I'm going to play the Hawk instead." I assume thats because Lynch prefered the short ball to feet as opposed to the massive hoof upfield and ossasional bullet own goal;
Saying "The players need a cuddle";
The crushing misery following the genuine excitement of his hiring;
Tactics that wouldn't have loked out of place in 1971;
Not making ANY substitutions until the last 5 minutes when some players had been thoroughly USELESS for 85 minutes;
Signing Jason Jarrett and re-signing Kerry Mayo.

Perhaps there's yet more...

worst manager = brian clough lost first game 8-2!! :laugh:

this - Clough was a football whore when he came to the club and buggered off after 8 minutes, one of the greatest managers of all time but certainly not for brighton although his legacy was Peter Taylor who laid the ground for our glory years with mullery - oh those heady days!

Mind you, there was one Albion managerial reign that had 100% record in defeats.
