Mostly,it's grim up north.

Oldham - a dire place,though I saw win.
Rochdale - a dire place,though I saw a win.
Burnley - a dire place.We were,um,defeated.

Minibus got bricked while still in it,tried to block our escape and turn it over,we ended up running one over escaping

Late 70's drew 1-1,think it was the season we nearly went up to div 1

Oh I've just remembered a couple of other stinkers. Trip to Northampton towns old county ground. Bugger all to do around town, awful stadium that only had three stands and one whole side was just advertising hordings in front of the cricket pitch that they shared with Northamptonshire c.c.c. And then a load of Northampton fans tried to climb the wall into our stand to attack us.
And Blackpools Bloomfield road in the mid 90's. Coach went through the roughest estate you ever did see on the way to the ground and then when we got to the ground we were confronted with a crumbling hole of a stadium. Large parts of it were shut because of safety concerns

Nestling in green nowhere
And Oxford Uniteds Kassam Stadium...three sides with the open end terminating in a carpet land car park. Another ball less soulless dump in the middle of nowhere shithole.

Shrewsbury in 84/85? fashanu scored for us. No worries in Shropshire itself but The Rev's brother decided that our 2 minibuses would stop off at Banbury on the way back. Unbeknown to us, Everton had played at Oxford earlier in the day and word was they were going to be appearing in Banbury afterwards. So we parked up for a quiet night in some tiny backwater. Only the whole of Oxfordshire had decided to turn out to welcome the scallies and we got battered! Paul Jayne got stabbed and it was reminiscent of the wild west as our lads were clambering aboard the moving minibuses as we sped out of town with the locals lobbing anything they could at us! Boro '91 was quite tasty too!

Oldham away - miles from a station, the ground is elevated so its always freezing. I remember going to a 4th round FA Cup game when they still had the plastic pitch. It started out sunny, then the drizzle kicked in then full sleet and snow. it got so bad they had to get the orange ball out. It was freezing cold and we lost 2-1. Utter crap hole of a place.

That was the cup game we won is c87. Nelson and Bremner scored I think?

The Northampton lads did have a go, but think they well and truly met their match after the game!!

"Dougie's evil"!!!

That's the one. I was only 15-16 at the time. Back in those days I wasn't drinking, but now through the haze of alcohol even the shittest of towns or football grounds seem bareable

I actually quite enjoy visits to so-called grim football club. When you think about it, most football clubs, especially in the lower divisions, are based in small Northern towns or on the periphery of big cities, so natually going to be a bit trodden on.

Scunthorpe was a real favourite of mine - a real dive of a place - remember when we won 2-1 up there a few years back when they had Keogh and Sharp up front. Good Northern boozer serving plenty of real ale near the train station, where we could have a few jars to celebrate.

Bolton and Wigan simply because there's f*** all there!

West Ham is the biggest shithole though, went in a 12 seater minibus, not a wise move putting our flag in the winda as they were FAR from happy after we beat them 2-1. :lolol:
