It had to be seen to be believed. The away end was just a loose pile of rubble. The home end consisted of a few paving slabs stacked on top of each other and surrounded by large sheets of rusty corrugated iron. The 'grandstand' was a bizarre collection of scaffolding planks and poles, and remaining side of the 'ground' was a cricket pitch which was seperated from the football pitch by a length of rope.
Purely the ground, Barnet although I always liked going there personally. Otherwise Donny, Kingstonian...and Withdean. And as an all-round town/ground experience with no saving or redeeming features, definitely Rotherham.
yep agree with earlier postig Barnet one of worst and the loos an absolute disgrace, Chester City years ago just as bad also thought the terracing in the corner at Notts Co awful again going back some years
A few other shite grounds spring to mind. Maidstone, when sharing Dartford's Watling Street ground. Northampton's old ground (spot-on description by the laughing bluebird). Oxford Utd's collection of a dozen or so ramshackle sheds and assorted outbuildings. Bath City's Twerton Park concentration camp , where I saw Reading play Bristol Rovers 5 times. And of course Aldershot's quaint little corner of the local recreation ground.
However, one thing all of them have that Reading's new home doesn't is TERRACES. I've been to see Aldershot at the Rec a few times in their Ryman league days, and the atmosphere is way better than the Madejski. God, I miss Elm Park.
