Worst away game

Meopham, Kent.
Stoke was awful, as have been many many away days over the years.

But last seasons trip to Palace is the worse experience of my life following the Albion, and it is by a country mile.

I agree with that.

The only time I have been assaulted was away to Bradford last season. A woman walking towards me, deliberately shoulder barged me, making me stagger backwards.

Would you recognise her again Yorkie?

We'll get her for you!!:censored: :)

Nothing could be worse than last season's Palace experience, but losing at Priestfield last year comes a close second. Why?

1. The place - if Kent is The Garden of England then Gillingham is the spot where the neighbours cat shits

2. The ground - many bad memories, poor view, uncovered

3. The man - Tommy Johnson

4. Our performance - absolutely shit

5. The car - parked in some backstreet which it took us 35 mins to find after the match (we left 10 mins early and still got caught up in all the football traffic)

6. The parking ticket on the car - £30

7. The long drive home.

Sad one this! New Years Day at Swindon in the 70's no grass to speak of on the pitch. Pissing down with rain. Losing 4-0 ref abandons the game. Joy was short lived, became separted from a friend who ended up catching a lift home, as the bus had left. Sadly his lift overturned on the A27 in the weather and he died before reaching hospital.

Any trip to Scunthorpe is instantly forgettable. Palace away last year was shite, my worst away game has to be getting beat 3-0 at Cardiff in 94 and taking a kicking for it too. :(

With regard to Palace away last season, I must say that the pre-match piss-up was one of the best I have ever experienced:drink:

1. Notts County 98 - non-existent police/stewarding

2. Sheffield Wednesday last year - mates being hit by Brighton fans

3. Cardiff 2000 - escorted from ground by home fans

4. 26th October 2002 - enough said

Palace last year obviously, although the FA Cup defeat at Kingstonian was also a highly shitty day.

All of the above will pale into insignificance:

1st November 2003 - Peterborough Utd when the Posh will record their only home win of the season on their way to certain relegation.

Palace last year wins hands down. Only the second time I have left a game early (1st being the walkout v Hereford).

For second place I nominate Oldham away two years ago, when I arrived half an hour late having got completely lost, saw Bobby get sent off, the worst 'football' performance I have ever seen from Daniel Webb, and of course we lost.

Two others that I remember beacuse of what happened in the next game - 3-0 away at Donnie which was something like our 17th away defeat in a row - which we overturned the very next game at Hartlepool (when I wasn't there) and another that should have been nominated before but I guess hasn't because hardly anyone was there - Hull away four years ago. Drove halfway across the country and we were dreadful, think we only lost 2-0 but should have been more. About 200 of us there and we didn't sing. Promotion hopes had gone up the swanny ages ago. David Cameron hauled off after 15 minutes which prompted Micky's infamous 'useless' quote - and he was right, despite all the criticism he got on here for that. Didn't go to the next away game even though it was just down the road from me because we had been so shit - and have regretted that for ages - Chester 1 Brighton 7. :shootself

Usually there is always something to enjoy in an away game regardless of the result.

Scunthorpe away in the cup a few years agao. There with a scunny fan from uni in the home end. Everybody knew i was albion.

For those who haven't been to Scunthorpe, nobody smiles, ever. There are no pubs that aren't shit and its f***ing freezing. All the time.

We put in a shit performance, i got bundled for both their goals and could only smile when we scored and they chanted Boring boring Scunthorpe at us in retaliation for us chanting it at them when they came to the Withdean and shut up shop for 90 minutes to earn a 0-0 draw.

Rubbish it iwas,

Many moons ago a game at Portsmouth when I went on the old Seagull Special train. We were all ushered to a particular set of turnstiles and got picked off on the other side by the Pompey muppets who had been chased out of the Fratton end by our thugs about an hour before.

I ended up nipping through a gate as my mates got beaten trying to get over the wall onto the pitchside track and spent the match with no idea who was around me as nobody murmured.

We lost 1 - 0, too.

I was about 14 and have never been so shit scared in all my life.

I must be about the same age. You could go anywhere in the ground as I remember and a lot of Pompey fans did. Having not enjoyed a second of the game we left about half-way through the second half through a little gate and legged it back to the station. When the train eventually came in Pompey fans ran up the platform opening doors and (as I remember it) were chucking lumps of wood in. I thought that was it.

Then the train was trashed on the way home.

Those were the days.
