Worrying

We've just sold our two crown jewels and bought an 18 year old who has played a handful of games for a fourth division team.

Of course, some of the Harding & Virgs money will be reinvested, but the question is NOT "who will we buy?" but "who will want to come here?". We're blatently selling off our young talent.

I suppose looking at this positively, we seem to be successfully running a production line of young talent (Virgo was a fringe player as recently as the Coppell era) either bought as youngsters or come through the youth set up, and we've got Hinsh, El-Abd and a couple of others coming through. However, who is going to want to come here? And as for this season, we are now TWO first regulars short. Mayo is not up to replacing as Harding as a regular starter for a whole season, and Virgo leaves a massive hole which Dodd will only be able to plug in the short term.

If CKR proves not to be the answer to our goal scoring problems, and if McGhee struggles to find reinforcements, we might be looking at a Rotherham type season. :(

I'll start to worry if Johnny Two Jags turns down Falmer and cant pick another spot of land for us to use, right now I'm just happy we are still playing football on a week to week basis whether thats with quality players or sunday league troopers!

I think that's all pretty negative!
Harding in my eyes was overated and £1.5M for Virgo is great.
MM will sign a couple more players i'm sure and we will have a better season than the last.
The thing that worrying me is the distinct lack of pace in defence with Dodds and Butters as the two center backs.

Indeed - our lack of depth is only a short term worry by comparison.

But if McGhee doesn't get 2 proven Championship players in, we'll probably go down. If he doesn't get anyone in at all of any note, I reckon we'll finish bottom.

Marc strikes a chord of realism, at least we are still playing football, if you had told me in the run up to the Hereford game that we would still exist in 2005, be playing in an athletics stadium and selling a home grown player for 1.5 million then I would have laughed then accepted that scenario without reservation.

The key to our future is Falmer, if two jags says yes then the future is bright, if the answer is no then things will take on a wholly different complexion.

We have done some amazing business in the last 12 months - 2 million quid and still survived in the Champship.

People were saying we were dead in the water when Cullip and Currie went yet we still did it.

This club is amazing.

The one year we provide stability on the pitch we are going crazy off it..........

Wouldnt want it any other way.................

Not many football fans wake up in the morning and expect something to happen.....but i do.

Not really - or maybe a tiny minority. A couple of months after Cullip had been sold, we went ten points clear of the relegation places.

I remeber a post from digweed trousers not long after we sold Cullip and what he said was right.

"We may be going into liquidation have no money and play in a shitty ground - but hey we do have a couple of decent young players im sure they will save us! we need to sell and stay afloat"

To be honest i couldnt give a feck if we got releagted next season as long as we get a yes for Falmer. In fact i couldnt give feck if we had to pick people from the crowd to play for us finish bottom with 0 points and be the laughing stock of the league.

To be fair we punched well above our weight last season.

The offer for virgs was something the was impossible to refuse and the harding situation we could not have stopped.

We will have players queing up when we have a yes for Falmer untill then we will have to cope with the dregs that we can get our hands on!

Cheer up its just another day of being an albion fan.

I still think we've got the basis of a really good squad.
Just because a couple of players leave it is not the end of the world.
I think MM will make some shrewd signing and we will stay up again.
All we've got to do is pray for Falmer!

My point exactly and I think it was a bit more than a tiny majority.
People were surprised at how well we coped without them.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
I think what you really have to remember is that unless there is a MONUMENTAL last minute FLID up, Falmer is in the bag.

FACT.

Lets leave the financial stuff to the EXPERTS like Martin and Dickie, but they must be sleeping rather more soundly in their beds this evening.

Night night xx

Personally, I think this team is good enough to keep us up. But, we are lacking strength behind it:

Kuipers

Reid, El-Abd, Dodd, Butters, Mayo
Oatway, Carpenter, Hammond,
CKR, Knight

Subs:
Martin,
Nicholas,
Trolley
Hinsh,
Cox

How can you rely on an 18yr old player who has only 15 or so first team games two divisions below us to play for a whole season ??

Irresponsible is my first reaction, rather unlikely is the second

We need Danny Cullip, Alan Blayney, a winger, and maybe one other. Surely the Virgs and Harding fees will produce enough money for this? even if they're all season long loans.

Actually, up-front is the least of our worries. We have Robinson, McPhee & Trolley in the mix too.

Virgs probably got more goals than our current set of strikers combined last season though.

Maybe that's why players will want to come here. CKR came here above others because he knew he would get first-team football, and he also knows that if he has a great season he won't be held to his contract like AJ at Palace - he will be sold. If I was a good young player with the confidence in my ability I would rather join Brighton than a team like Leicester who believe they'll get to the Premiership, though they haven't got a hope.

IMO, that's why Harding went to Leeds. He's a shy lad who I think has a lack of confidence in himself so decided to earn some big bucks while he has the chance.
