Worried about the Keeper situation for next season.

Well if we can't we can't. But it must be the number 1 priority..They say a keeper is still in his prime at 33/34. So if we could sign someone 33/34ish, there is no reason why whoever it is could not be first choice for four years.

We will see. Gus will not sign any keeper, though - they have to be able to play the Gus way, which limits choice. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Looks like we might have to do with the same two clowns again next season if you believe Mr Oatway. Obviously planning for another season failing to reach the playoffs.

All the teams challenging for promotion this season had better (=good) keepers. Our two are not bad but seem to me average Championship keepers. At 20 points short of automatic promotion, if Vicente is worth 12 extra points, we need a keeper to get us an extra 6 points and another midfielder for another 6 points, and a striker got another 6 points, i.e. 66 + 30 = 96 (still less Reading in their first Championship).

Could we sign Sorenson ?

the jock keeper at sunderland has been told to piss off

cost 'em alot of money, must be half senisble???

Gordon earns a king's bloody ransom at Sunderland. Good keeper but well out of our reach I suspect.

I agree with Kevthe Rev that the confidence of the whole defence rests to a large degree on the keeper - you only have to look at the damage that Kuipers used to create by blaming everyone else for his mistakes

There is nothing to worry about - they are both good enough to keep us mid-table in the Championship. However if you want to go up, that's different.

Goalkeeper is the most obvious position we need to strengthen above all others. Then a proven striker and then a box to box midfielder. If we don't sign a new number 1, then the clowns within the club are not on the playing staff.

I agree we do need a better keeper but goals conceded this season was not the reason we did not get promoted,it was the 1-1 draws and 1-0 defeats because we lack decent strikers, imho signing a decent strike force must take precedent over signing new keepers

6 of one, half a dozen of another. All good teams start at the back and to be fair as you say, the back is pretty much sorted. Just need an regular number 1. Striker or 2 is just as vital though.....So no goalkeeper and no striker it is then!!!!

Just a thought but is Stuart Taylor out of contract at Man City? I remember him at Villa being a very useful back-up keeper and at 30 odd and been around a bit he might be worth a punt?

no better than what we have. You really think they would release a decent keeper???

Or maybe he feels he should be playing first team football in this division and not back up then rejecting a contract renewal and looking elsewhere?

If we want to mount a serious challenge for the top six then a new goalkeeper is a must. Brezovan is adequate for a mid table finish, Ankegren I'm not sure is up to a regular starting position at this level.

A lot of people talk about our defensive record being good and our goal scoring being poor so attacking players should be the priority. I disagree and actually think it should be the other way. I think we have a good defensive record because of the way we have had to play.

Poyet wants us to control games. The only way we've been able to do that to any degree this season has been by packing the midfield at the expense of our attacking players. When the back four have been exposed they've struggled so we've had to overload the centre of midfield and defend deep as a team. It's worked to a fair extent but at the cost of blunting our attacking threat, which is a shame because I suspect the majority of the clubs in this division would love to have LuaLua, Buckley, Vicente, Noone, CMS, Barnes on their books.

Sign a quality c.m to go with Bridcutt and we won't need to play three in there, allowing us to play an extra winger/striker and thus posing more of an attacking threat.

Signing a couple of fullbacks that can defend a winger on their own without having to double up on them will again allow our wingers to pose more of a threat as they wont be defending our penalty area when we win possession of the ball.

Sign a decent keeper who can catch crosses and control his box and the back four won't have to defend so deep meaning the midfield won't have to sit deep meaning, again, when we get the ball we'll be higher up the pitch and able to cause the opposition more trouble.

So, for me the two key positions are c.m and g.k, followed by the fullbacks and then a striker. If we don't fill those positions I think the top six will be difficult to achieve. If we then signed another quality c.m on top of that lot I'd be very confident of a top six position and mildly hopeful of an automatic position.

Bit worrying that Charlie has made most of the recent Argus press reports, inc the article on the keepers. Hope I'm not reading to much into this!

Complete overreaction against Brez. When has he actually had a completely woeful game this calendar year, when it's solely his fault? (i.e. not West Ham, as the entire team were dire that day) All I can remember is him making some pretty stellar saves, something I couldn't say for Ankers.

Ok, they're not the best two GKs in the league, but to call them clowns just shows how little some people know about football
