There are loads of really good bass players, not a bad one mentioned, even Sting qualifies , just.

JPJ and C Squire are glaring ommissions from my list, love them both.

Not a metal head at all but Steve Harris of Iron Maiden should get a mention for inventing and then mercilessly exploiting the running bass line (as opposed to entwistles thrumming or lemmys strumming)

Bootsy Collins has to be the greatest though.
