This is actually quite sad when you read the story.

This is a young guy who grew up in care and had no history of online activism. Looks like he got swept up in the whole thing and put some of his internal racism into the public domain, just in the context of what was going on. Maybe he's a total scumbag and career petty criminal, who knows

I'm not arguing that the result should be any different, inciting racial hatred is a serious crime.

However, it's a tad hypocritical to crow about it, no?

There was much grumbling on the JSO thread when their agitators got banged up for conspiracy, it seems the so called Liberal left are quite happy with a bit of authoritarianism and to punch down when it suits them.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they were advocating the burning down of hotels, while "illegal immigrants" were inside, were they?

No, I hadn't seen any of his back story (source ?). However his solicitor would have put that all forward in mitigation and the judge would have had to consider all of it (and probably a lot else that we have no knowledge of) before handing out the sentence.
Not sure his solicitor would've had much chance in one day. Arrest to conviction in such a small timescale is never a good look.

I'm only here for the hypocrisy.
Plenty of people have been screaming about Tory authoritarianism recently, it's funny how they're happy to turn a blind eye when someone on the other side is on the receiving end.

Depends. I think the folk going down have pleaded guilty. Anyone who pleads not guilty needs to go to full trial.

To add a little to his backstory he set up a business selling graphics cards during COVID. Which seems very entrepreneurial and clever identifying a likely growth market. Sadly he just took people's money and didn't actually supply any graphics cards.

What are the previous events you are considering broadly equivalent to inciting racial hatred and murder that must have happened for there to be hypocrisy here?

I must admit, I haven't seen anybody screaming about the last Tory Government's authoritarianism.

Plenty about their incompetence, backstabbing, lying, hypocrisy, culture wars, corruption, narcissism, cronyism and general dishonesty at every level, but nothing about their authoritarianism

Precisely.

What a weird comment to have to address

Precisely (again).

And most of us were ripping the piss out of the JSO idiots. I was and I am a Trained Socialist

The equivalence is in the incitement/conspiracy. I don't care if that's incitement to murder or stealing a packet of crisps. The severity of the crime is irrelevant here.

Plenty on the JSO thread were implying that the organisers weren't culpable because they only spoke about committing crimes in a zoom call.

Plenty?

I was quite happy to mock the JSO convicted. Why are you defending the racists by whataboutery?

Because that is what you're doing.

And in case you didn't notice, the JSO clowns were jailed.

Deliberately missing the point. And stop overusing whataboutery, you seem to claim it in every disagreement, its not relevant here.

Yes they were jailed and people were unhappy about that. The same people are happy that this bloke was jailed, I'm saying they can't have it both ways.

For the record I think both cases have been dealt with correctly. I think both sentences were harsh.

You think that every opinion contrary to your own is weird, you're incapable of accepting that people see things differently.
Don't be stupid. There is plenty of evidence on NSC that I am on warm terms with people who are naturally tory. And I am a Labour member. You can do the sums yourself.

Isn't that a contradiction? You seem to be agreeing with something that you disagree with.
