The Combatants:

Crocodile

One of the big boys of the competition, the croc is a three time beaten semi finalist and a three time beaten finalist. He has pound for pound the most powerful bite force of any creature on earth, has outlived the dinosaurs, can survive and prosper with missing limbs and tail, can eat anything and has its own killing move in the death roll.

Asian Giant Hornet

This is the worlds biggest hornet and possesses a potent sting. Its a very predatory species and will attack bee hives to get the larvae as food. A single AGH can kill up to 40 bees a minute.... The AGH is also more than happy to take on and kill large insects. Its not made a big impact in the tournament to date, but with the right championing could do well.

Elephant

I'm pretty sure you know about the Elephant. Its a massive powerful beast. Intelligent, generally peacefull it can go BESERK and RAMPAGE if the mood takes it. If it does, theres no stopping it.

Puff Adder

A venomous viper this snake is responsible for the most deaths by snake bites in Africa. It can slither along land, swim or climb trees with equal ease. Its fangs are so long and its bite so strong tht its prey will often die from just the bite trauma, nevermind the highly toxic venom destroying them from the inside.

Hippo

Another of the tournament's big boys, the Hippo is the 2010 champion. Despite being herbivores these massive beasts are highly aggressive and ill tempered and will go toe to toe with literally anything. They dont even need provocation to start a fight. They have no real predators due to their size and extreme aggressiveness. They should go deep into this competition.

Cockroach

The 'roach is a hardy little bugger, being able to survive in extreme conditions and situations and even after decapitation. Not overly aggressive though.

Cassowary

This mental looking bird enjoyed a break out season last year. Can it maintain its momentum this year and mount a serious challenge? A shy, flightless bird the cassowary will go crazy if pushed to far and will attempt to eviscerate you with its 5inch dagger like claw.

Wolf

The wolf is an apex predator and is capable of tracking and killing beasts considerably larger than itself like Moose and Bison.

[Brighton Breezy]

Poison dart frog. Not only does it have poison skin, but its bright colours make it look lairy.

A crocodile's bite can be disarmed with an elastic band.

Has to be the croc from that one. If it was the size of a cat it would still be one double hard *******, and that's the way you need to think about it. And perhaps the AGH, one of them the size of a croc would be a formidable foe.

I always thought hippos were hard until I came face to face with one when going for a piss in the middle of the night in a camp site in Africa and it turned and ran away. Pussy. And if it was the size of a cat it would basically be a pug. It should fall at the first hurdle.

Wolf? Take it or leave it, basically a big dog that only gives it the big one when it's mates are with it.

Elephant? Big and hard, but only really because of it's size, although it does have that mental streak, which is what this competition is all about.

Puff Adder and Dart Frog? I'm always dubious about poisonous animals being in this competition, it's a like a bare knuckle fight to the death and someone rocking up with a shotgun, it raises eyebrows. And having poisonous SKIN definitely isn't hard.

Cockroach? Hard, yes, but not a serious contender as it's not aggressive enough, although being able to live without a head and survive a nuclear war is impressive.

I know nothing about the Cassowary but it doesn't look hard, it looks like a peacock. I'd like to hear more about it's credentials.

I find the venom/poison aspect of a creature a bit like cheating. It does sound like the adder could kill stuff regardless of the venom though to be fair.

It should be pointed out that the Puff Adder does not slither away when approached, like other snakes. It sits there, warns you and then strikes - bit like the local nutter blocking the way to the toilet in the pub. Is this not the very definition of "hard"?

I think this competition is shaping up nicely. The honey badger will be a contender as always, the cassowary will challenge, and the shrimp has come from nowhere to be a threat. The days of the big lumbering creatures, like the bear, hippo and great white shark, are numbered I think.

Cockroach is struggling here. It's the only competitor (out of 49) to have not garnered a single vote yet. Plenty of time left but if it stays this way and ends up on 0, I might have to give it a one tournament ban.

I totally agree.

Despite at least one "Come on, the elephant would just step on the mouse" style comment on each group, I'm sensing a much greater level of understanding of the true meaning of WHC this year. It promises to be a true classic.

I'd normally agree but the puff adder is hard on the basis of the fact it doesn't back down. Elephants will veer off track to go around it, because it refuses to just slither away. Plus its actual bite causes just as much damage as the venom. On the basis therefore of it being a double hard fearless b@stard, it sneaks my vote - just above the Cassowary which is basically a velociraptor, but with feathers. Batsh!t crazy ninja ostrich.

Praying Mantis' are hard but the AGH dispatches it in such a blood curdling efficient and brutal way it has to be this year's champ.
