:bla:

It seems every day is World Something Day but does anyone have any ideas what today is? I'm looking for inspiration for an English class later today.

This much I do know:

1862 Kent cricketer Joseph Wells became the first man to take 4 consecutive wickets. (Not sure I would be able to teach cricket to the Argentines!)

1909 Edward VIII opened the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

1963 President Kennedy gave his, 'Ich bin ein Berliner' (I am a Do-nut) speech in West Berlin. Potential about gaffs in foreign language!

1976 The CN tower in Toronto opened, the world's tallest free-standing structure.

Any other suggestions?

Today is Internet Radio Silence Day

Internet broadcasters have organized a nationwide coalition to oppose the rate hike and in support of the Internet Radio Equality Act. Starting at 12 a.m. on June 26, many of them will join in a "Day of Silence" — either shutting off their audio streams entirely, or replacing their streams with static or ocean sounds, interspersed with brief public service announcements — to dramatize the consequences of the impending rate hike.

50 years ago today, June 26 1957, in the War Memorial Hospital in Purley, Surrey a baby was born. A baby who was destined to alter the course of human history and hold the fate of the entire planet in his hands ...
