[Misc] World War II Codenames Pub Quiz Questions

A good friend of mine runs a Monthly Pub Quiz at the Frankland Arms and in a moment of boredom I said I would help set some questions for him, as a Second World War Bore I thought why don't I ask what these WWII Codenames represent?

Emailed them to him and he got 10 of the 12 but he used to be a History Lecturer so that was to be expected.

As a clue they are pretty much in chronological order...

1. Dynamo
2. Sealion
3. Barbarossa
4. Operation Z
5. Torch
6. Chastise
7. Uranus
8. (3 Parter) Upkeep, Tallboy and Grand Slam (bonus point for link between these)
9. (3 Parter) Gee, Oboe and H2S (no bonus point)
10. Window
11. (3 Parter) Overlord, Pluto and Mulberry (no bonus point)
12. Fat Man and Little Boy

9. (3 Parter) Gee, Oboe and H2S (no bonus point)
10. Window
11. (3 Parter) Overlord, Pluto and Mulberry (no bonus point) D-day landings
12. Fat Man and Little Boy The two atomic bombs dropped on Japan

12 = Atomic bombs.

And I’m afraid that’s the limit of my knowledge on this. (Well, I know Overlord is D-Day, but not the other two)

Dynamo was Dunkirk wasn’t it ?
Number 8 was 617 squadron (dambusters) I think.
11 was d-day. Pluto was pipeline under the ocean, the fuel supply to Normandy and mulberry was the floating harbour.
Was 10 the dropping of foil by the raf to fool German radar on d day ?

Tantalisingly close, it was in North Africa but neither Tobruk nor El Alamein (my Grandad was at the latter!)

All correct with caveat that Window wasn't just used on D Day, the world's first electronic warfare countermeasure was indeed strips of aluminium foil!

As you can probably tell I have pretty well finished my paid work if I'm doing all these replies at 9AM...

Tantalisingly close, it was in North Africa but neither Tobruk nor El Alamein (my Grandad was at the latter!)

9 was radio positioning systems for bombing

Used to drink in a pub in Conwy Marina called the Mulberry, as it was one of the places they built parts of the harbour
