OK, let’s see if Travis Head can play like that against our bowlers…

This is a strong Aussie side.
We will do well to win the ashes.
I hope there is more to us than bazball. We will need to be more nuanced.

If you go through our matches against New Zealand, India, South Africa and Pakistan over the last year I think you could find just about every variation on how to win a game that's possible.
Ultimately, if it turns out Australia are just better than us, then there's no shame in that. They've got a couple of great batters, some damn good ones and a wonderful bowling attack.
But getting shat on looking for nuance is the worst way we can lose. I'd rather we lose the Ashes in 10 days pushing as hard as we can than lose in 15 trying to drag it out.

There’s a balance to be had though right? We have been steamrollering teams for the past year scoring at 6 an over or more at times.
We can’t expect to do that routinely this summer. It’s going to be a frustrating series if joe root keeps getting out trying to hoik Lyon , for no reason.
Also - I don’t care how we win, as long as we end up with the urn. That said , this England team couldn’t be boring if they tried. Unless they recalled dom sibley perhaps - which would be a terrible idea !
It’s going to be a great series . Possibly up there with 2005. I can’t wait.

A much better bowling performance from India today... 327-3 yesterday, 142-7 today.

Australia 469 all out (121.3 overs)

It will be very interesting to see the Aussie quicks in action.

Aussie attack looking a handful so far. But, my oh my, that India opener left it alone horrifically. With no comment from the commentary team.

I don't see us as just going out there and trying to blaze away mindlessly.
Last season at Old Trafford we scored 415 at just shy of 4 an over against a really quality South Africa attack.
Some of the innings against New Zealand were brisk but not too out there run rate wise either. We scored quickly in Pakistan but that made sense in those conditions.
I have, over the years, come to terms with the idea that England will frequently lose. As long as it isn't a humiliating capitulation like the time they somehow lost 8 wickets to Roston Chase I don't mind.

I'd actually forgotten that we were bowled out for 77 in the first innings of that game. That's how ridiculous the second innings was.

I think we'll properly go for it. Death or glory

With Stokes and McCullum this kind of cricket is ideological. Just like with RDZ and playing out from the back.

Of course there will be times when we just can't get the ball away and attacking play is much more than just a high run rate. It's about field placings, keeping on bowlers who are going over the park.

I don't expect to see any watering down at all of our playing style. Hold on to your hats.

And i'll tell you what, that lad Boland is a good bowler not to be a first choice pick. Think i'd face Hazlewood before him.
