World Football Phone-in (on 5Live)

Anyone listen to this?
High recommended, the best piece of radio of the week, better than 606 due to the fact the 'pundits' know everything about their field.

Tim Vickery (legendinho) knows everything about every player in South America, quite remarkable. Give it a listen, friday nights 2am - 4am on 5 live, or catch the podcast if you have a free hour (you won't regret it).

Yes it's superb, Andy Brassell is the very knowledgeable European football expert and the yank dude ain't to bad either.

On a side note, why are there no footy journalists on tv game coverages? I'd much rather have the likes of Vickery, Brassell, Balague, Marcotti and the Guardian pod guys than Shearer, Lawrenson etc. I mean it's exclusively ex pros. I appreciate they've played the game but everyone hates most of them. Some of them are ok, such as Cascarino, Dixon and Neville but the majority don't seem to treat there roles seriously. Itv and the beeb seem to think we are happy with 'names' who don't do any research and offer lazy, cliched opinions.

It is amazing how many ex-pros don't actually know important parts of the laws of the game that they used to play for a living at.

Also add to the the fact Hanson gets 40k per episode where as Vickery or Brassell probably get that per year (give or take).

I agree - journos like Paddy Barclay and Henry Winter have far more interesting and articulate points of view than most of the ex-player pundits.

Yup. Dedicated follower for a few years now. Top show. Been meaning to media whore myself by calling in one week but always get the podcast til now.

The Legendinho is one of THE best footy journos.

....and I totally agree about Winter and Barclay too. Proper football journos with razor sharp perception and very articulate.

Love listening to anything from BBC5Live's Chief Football Correspondent Mike Ingham too. Gravitas, poise and an truly expert summariser.

Graham Hunter and Sid Lowe (Spanish footy experts) also know their stuff and capture the mood / vibe over in the Iberian peninsula.

Anyway, back on topic I highly recommend the show. Entertaining and insightful.

I remember seeing The Real Sounds Of Africa at the Corn Exchange about 20 years ago. If I remember right, there were
11 of them and when they got to playing "I am a football fan" most of the band jumped into the audience with a football
and started having a kick about. Happy days! (Oh, and yes, I do enjoy the world football phone-in)
