Sepp Blatter favours the 2018 World Cup going to North America! What a t******. Obviously been given a pocketful of dollars to build up his retirement fund. He should be highlighting the remarkable steps taken here in terms of support, behaviour and stadia to push for the WC to come here.

Mexico hosted in 1970 AND 1986, and USA in 1994.

Germany (twice), France, Italy and Spain have all hosted the World Cup since 1966.

It will be Europe's turn in 2018 AND we invented the f***ing game. He clearly has a problem with the English FA.

Canada?? China?? Do me a favour!

The Chinese invented football

Sepp Blatter is an egomaniac twat. His ultimate aim:

"Ladies and gentlemen, the 2018 World Cup goes to....the MOON!"

It should be here in 2018.

By then it will have been 52 years since the last time we hosted it, which I think brings it around to being our flipping turn again, especially give that the article mentions the USA wanting to host it again, when it will only be 24 years since their last turn by the time 2018 rolls around.

"The Fifa president said his personal inclination was for the rotation to continue to North America, with the USA, Mexico, and Canada all capable of hosting the tournament."

Seems stupid that this so-called 'rotation' policy should treat as equal a continent with 3 countries, and only 1 (and a half) of them 'football' countries, with one with 50ish countries considering football their national sport.

Edit - am aware there are probably a lot less than 50 countries in UEFA

Stupid yes, unless you're Sepp Blatter, in which case it makes perfect sense...

Definitely, that a great reason for the UK - not any of the Allies such as, er, US, or even France or Belgium obviously - to host it. Maybe they could have a nice muddy trench somewhere and use it as a dugout, as a sombre reminder of blah blah blah...

Also, the Russian, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires also "lost" during WW1 - should this have any influence on the choice of venue at all? :shootself :shootself :shootself :shootself :shootself

I have always considered Blatter to be removed from the real world of football - this confirms it. How the hell did he get to the position he now holds?

Yes but no-one is bidding to host the cuju world cup.

They are however bidding to host the World Cup in the sport of association football, which was invented by the English FA.

Personally I'd like to see it go to a joint Scotland/Ireland bid.

No, FIFA have said no more jointly-hosted tournaments after Euro 2008, which is tough on the Ottomans...

Really? That's crap. Rules out many countries ever being able to host a major tournament.

Mexico got 1986 because Columbia couldnt do it.

Colombia was originally chosen as hosts by FIFA in June 1974. However, the Colombian authorities declared in November 1982 that they could not afford to host the World Cup under the terms that FIFA demanded. Mexico was selected on May 20, 1983 as the replacement hosts, beating the bids of Canada, and the United States (who eventually hosted the 1994 World Cup), and became the first nation to host two World Cups. This second World Cup in Mexico came only 16 years after the first one in 1970. A severe earthquake in September 1985, eight months before the tournament, cast doubt over Mexico's ability to organize the event; however, the stadiums were not affected and it was decided to go ahead with the preparations.

However we SHOULD have the World Cup here
