I still have a hunch the ludicrous desert 'state' world cup will get shifted to England. We are 'world cup ready' whereas the desert state is only slightly less ready venue than Gibralta, Greenland, and the Moon.

You're forgetting the 'ABE' (Anything But English) culture that exists in so many places today (FIFA, the England Test Selectors, Scotland, Eurovision, etc.), so that even if the WC gets taken off Qatar, hell will freeze over before it is allocated to England.

Yep, Oz and USA can't get any Olympics or WC's either.

And these are the bribing little buggers who were too tight to fill the Blatter trouser pockets:

I heard Blatter's pockets are filled with other things. Right, Sepp?

Right, Sepp?

Right, Sepp?

Nothing.

There was a proper decent ENGLISHMAN in charge of FIFA back then (Stanley Rous), so no hanky panky needed. That was in the good old days when it wasn't run by dodgy foreigners!

Decent? He was a dodgy apartheid supporter.

How Germany got the World Cup is common knowledge

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2000/jul/07/sport.comment

"England spent their last few pennies on giving the 24 Fifa executive members limited-edition model London taxis decorated in the bid colours and they even supplied them with "England 2006" cushions to sit on during the presentation. South Africa handed out beaded bracelets, while Germany provided as much draught beer as anyone could drink in the press-centre bar in Zurich. It was Claudia Schiffer and a pint of lager versus Tony Banks and a Dinky."

Claudia Schiffer in a little black dress handing out beer or a Labour MP with a model car? Absolute no brainier.

Gods country fortnightly
That said seem to recall we behaved pretty disgracefully going for this WC when we said we wouldn't
