World Cup Question: What happens if....

Can you tell me what happens if
England beat Sweden 2-0 and Trinidad beat Paraguay 1-0
Sweden and Trinidad will be on the points, same goals for, against and difference, they also drew 0-0
who would then qualify?

Is it down to a coin toss, who gets to call heads or tails? or how is it decided?

The same can happen with france and switzerland i guess

The two teams coming first and second in each group qualify for the second round.

If two or more teams are equal on points their ranking shall be determined as follows:

-Greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned

- Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned

-Greater number of goals scored in group matches between the teams concerned

-Goal difference in all group matches

-Greater numbre of goals scored in all the group matches

-Drawing lots by the organisingcommittee for the FIFA world cup.

SDC, that is out of date I think, as it says that the result between the two teams is the first factor. However, that was changed for this world cup, and it is now goal difference that sorts things out.

Just got that off a world cup excel spreadsheet thingy so not sure how accurate it is. Surely there must be a page about it on the FIFA website.

my scenario is that the team in 2nd and 3rd finish on
-the same points,
the same goal difference,
the same goals scored,
the same goals against
and the 2 teams drew in the group match

i.e. if we beat sweden 2-0 and trinidad beat paraguay 1-0

group b will look like this

England Pld 3, W3, D0, L0 , GF5, GA0, GD +5, POINTS 9
Sweden Pld 3, W1, D1, L1, GF1, GA2, GD -1, POINTS 4
Trinidad Pld 3, W1, D1, L1, GF1, GA2, GD -1, POINTS 4
Parguay Pld 3, W0, D0, L1, GF0, GA, 3, GD -3,POINTS 0

I had already looked this up - my drunken husband called me yesterday at 2am because they were having a 'beer tent' debate over the very same issue and he had me get online and search for the correct answer.

Waking me from my slumber like he did meant the whole sorry affair stuck in my head. I know page 17 like the back of my hand now!

Seeing as they have scored the same amount of goals in all the group games I can only assume they would 'draw lots' as it says in the rules.

They draw lots. The same way as the FIFA & UEFA draws; plastic balls.

Sadly, I am old enough to remember them doing it in 1990 to decide who came second in England's group. It was between Ireland and Holland.

Is this drawing lots done on TV?

Maybe the two teams should hold a penalty shoot out to decide!
