Iran had only 1 shot on target all game compared to the USA's 5.

The States had 12 shots in total compared with Iran's 4.

The better team won and went through.

It would've been a travesty for a team that lost a group game 6-2 to have gone through.

Iran were flattered by just how bad Wales were this tournament.

Better team absolutely won, USA actually very impressive for most of that game - until the 80th minute of course. Iran gave absolutely everything in that last 10+10 minutes and the USA were hanging on for dear life at the end. Iran really should have equalised.

Really quite surprising how much better those two teams were than Wales - dreadful showing from them. Maybe we can excuse Iran's first game for the obvious mitigating circumstances and facing the strongest team in the group.
