Gutted for Mexico, Poland are so unbelievably dull.
Agreed on Poland, and if they play like that against France they will get absolutely battered, which will be good riddance.

But Mexico offered nothing in their first two games, beyond kicking lumps out of Argentina. In all honesty my preference would have been for Argentina and Saudi Arabia to progress.

They are but Mexico are consistently gash at World Cups. Let's face it, no goals before today - hard to have too much sympathy.
Exactly!

Oh, and you forgot the dirty and cynical bit btw

I hope another goal is scored. Deciding on disciplinary records is a bit of a travesty. You may as well decide based on the number of corners.
And what happens if the corner numbers are equal. There are other criteria before it gets to discipline but encouraging fair play isn't such a bad thing.

As it stands the domestic clubs with most WC goalscorers are as follows:

PSG - 2 Mbappe, Messi
Barcelona - 2 Morata, Torres
Man Utd - 2 Rashford, Fernandes
Chelsea - 2 Sterling, Pulisic
Brighton - 2 Caicedo, MacAllister
Ajax - 2 Klaassen, Mo Kudus

Just need goals from Trossard, Mitoma or Lamptey to take the lead......

I have no love for Mexico - they are arrogant in Concacaf and their fans got right on my tits in 2006. But I just can't bear the idea of qualification being decided on yellow cards. I mean that is absurd.
I think it's a good idea, might actually stop shit sides from just injuring the opposition to try and get a result. Mexico did that against Argentina (still lost) and almost paid for it.

Why out of interest!?

Just interested - is anyone watching any two world cup matches at the same time? ie one on the tv the other on laptop/ipad - or moved two TVs into one room? Or are people watching catch-up? Or not wanting to watch all the matches anyway? It find it a little annoying that I have to choose, I’d rather they were scheduled so I can spend 8hrs a day watching football if I’m not working 😂)
TV and laptop, except I have to put TV on iplayer so that both games are simultanious otherwise internet delay means TV tell me of a goal on screen 2 before it's scored. Got a feeling I'm going to be doing it a lot in the next few days as well. So mant permutations on results, goals and yellow cards.

Yeah, I'm sort of with you on that in a scenario where there's maybe just one card difference and maybe one of those cards was harsh. I agree, that would be a travesty.
I have no previous with Mexico from memory but watching them against Argentina in this tournament, I would have been perfectly ok with them going out on the strength of their behaviour in that game alone.

Funny you say that about The Netherlands. The press here are definitely not sharing that view.

Football has been very defensive and uninspiring. I think the US may even beat NL next round.
Welcome to What Wins Tournaments.

I don't mean they've been attractive to watch, but they look set up a like a team that goes far in tournaments can do.

Last time round Holland were more gung ho and entertaining. Went out pretty quickly. England fans always ask for us to do this too - go crazy, look great in a game or two but out in the first knock out game.

Isn’t the French team all the reserve players?
That wouldn't be seen as an excuse if it was England doing it. Everyone would be going absolutely mental right now.
