World Cup 2014 UEFA Qualifying Thread

The draw for the qualifying round is on 30th July. According to Wikipedia, England are in Pot A
Republic of Ireland are in Pot C
Scotland and Northern Ireland in Pot D
Wales are in Pot F

"The July 2011 FIFA Ranking will be used to seed the teams. In consideration of the delicate political situations of the relationships between Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as between Russia and Georgia, UEFA have requested that FIFA maintain the current UEFA policy to not draw these teams into the same qualification groups. The mechanism for doing so will be confirmed by the FIFA Organising Committee on 29 July 2011 once the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for July 2011 has been established and the respective pots for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Georgia confirmed."

Given the June 2011 FIFA Ranking and results during this month, pot seeding is expected to be as follows.

There is a slight chance the pot seeding could be inaccurate and change before the draw. For example, Wales and the Faroes tied on 273 ranking points with one of them going into Pot F. The Faroes are lobbying Fifa to include decimal points in their calculations - something which would see them leapfrog Wales into pot E. Wikipedia has presumed the Faroes will get the nod, but who knows.

the decimal point is very important for very small nations. unlucky for wales, they lost out!

What absolute garbage, I think the seedings are decided on a combination of WC performance and qualifying performance. We've qualified for the last 4 World Cups and been group winners in qualification for the past 3. Ok so we've not had a brilliant past 12 months but we're still rightly in the top group of seedings.

Oh god, I agree with crodo. Pot A is where England deserve to be, based on recent performance.

I can see France. Russia maybe borderline. But really - Turkey?!

Just looking at this thread, how much would I like to go to this World Cup (very unlikely). It's an 11, off the scale. Will be very, very special for any fans that make it.

Another new qualifier campaign for us seasoned England followers. Hopefully get some interesting draws, but could end up with a few repeats. Avoiding Turkey/Russia/Montenegro/Switzerland/Faroes/San Marino are all 'musts' imo

Iceland are better than the Faroe Islands in Pot E for sure.

I would fancy France or Russia to beat either Norway or Greece. Probably add England to that list too. Didn't France give us a good thrashing in a frinedly at home in the last 12 months or so?
