Thought about it as my best mate lives in Rio. Problem is that England could be playing anywhere, and much of Brazil isn't actually particularly nice. If the whole tournament was in Rio I would be there

That's why the Olympics are a better bet.

And no danger of us not qualifying.

I went out to South Africa last time, and had an excellent time, despite England being knocked out as I was flying out there.
As someone has said, mixing with all the different nationalities is great fun, and even better if your in an interesting country.

Just applied for some Brazil tickets, so might have to start looking at flights.

If your best mate lives in Rio, just get yourself there. Even if England aren't playing there, there will be plenty of England fans about. You can have an incredible time at a World Cup and it won't get ruined by watching us under perform. :)

Will be flying there from Miami. A couple of mates are flying into Montevideo and then traveling overland across into Brazil to one of their resort towns in the South that is a host city. I'll not be making the same mistake as I did in South Africa and will not be following England all over the place, although I should have tickets to do so. Did nearly 3000 miles just to see the group games, it was mad. Brazil is slightly bigger than the US, and internal flying is not that great, and very expensive. So, best bet I think is head for Rio, find somewhere out of town to base, and see the local games from there..

By the way, it is an 8 hour flight from Miami to Rio, same distance as Miami - London... and most of the flights down there are night flights. You can get flights cheaper that make a couple of stops though.

Seems pointless to go to brazil via states from what I've seen ... Long long journey and flights seem to start from about £900 anywhere in US.

After much deliberation I ended up getting flights via the states ...miami for a couple of days before and NYC a couple of days afterwards. £1050 for the flight.

Will be there for the quarters through to the final ... Will be looking to see the quarter in rio ... Semi in São Paulo and final in rio. And booked a couple of days in buzios as well.

Advice: book internal flights NOW ... Typical flights between rio and São Paulo are 50 quid . at World Cup time they are already up to 250/300 and are virtually sold out.

There are pretty much no hotels left in rio there simply is not enough hotels in the city. There are some truly gruesome offerings left; think mixed dorms in favela kind of shite. I've booked a half decent 4* but that has set me back 700 odd quid a night....... São Paulo on the other hand has a few decenti-sh hotels left.

Fly to Buenos Aires, live it up in Argentina for a couple of nights before taking a flight to Sao Paolo. Flights at the moment are 690 quid return.

Rio is going to be absolute mayhem with regards to accomodation, I'm deliberating whether to go there or somewhere further North which will be just as good IMO like Fortaleza, let's not forget that Rio is already a party city.

My journey will be Bogota to Leticia by plane which is on the border of Colombia and Brazil in The Amazon, then a boat to Manaus which takes several days but you never leave the famous river and finally an internal flight to which ever city takes my fancy.

Get saving though everyone, regardless of what you earn, Brazil is going to be seriously expensive come June.

You're welcome ;)

Really though, definitely think you've taken the best option (direct flights aside). Travel around 250,000 miles a year and South American routing is always the biggest headache for me..

Just over a grand would be a superb price. I have a free flight that I have earnt with BA Amex this year so hopefully I will be able to use this for next summer. Would be very happy with £1040 for 2 people.

I doubt, if you have a free voucher, that you will be able to book a seat as they know demand will be high so they will not allocate any voucher seats to those trips .

Have you thought going via American Airlines via Miami

BA miles seats have gone. I got 2 using miles the day they were released in Biz Class, direct.

Hotels is no different to any major tournament of the last 12 years or so, nothing around now but will come out nearer the time, or will book via one of the tour operators such as Sport Options or similar. No need to worry yet

Interesting. I did read an article stating that there is simply not enough hotels in rio to accommodate the kind of crowds expected, I believe there is 4x as many hotels in London as rio and they are in big trouble for the Olympics.

The usual stories come out, managed to do 8 nights in South Africa, all in central hotels, just need to hold your nerve.

Always find England lads that just go out there, and walk round hotels and magically find free rooms. Anything half decent gets given to FIFAs 'travel partners' to try and sell at 5 times the price.
